STAR TREK: 2FACE, KCEE SET CALABAR ON FIRE

The 2012 edition of the annual Nigeria Breweries’ Star Trek has finally come to an end. This year’s concert was tagged ‘Nigeria Rocks’ as the brand hosted events at different venues in 10 states: Ibadan, Makurdi, Ejigbo (Lagos), Ilesha, Benin, Sapele, Akwa, Abakaliki, Uyo and Calabar.

The Calabar Cultural centre complex was a fitting venue for the show which was hosted by Gbenga Adeyinka. Music-man DJ Tony treated the crowd to various songs, with Gbenga calling for a dance contest of two categories- slim and fat ladies. Four lucky ladies went home with a cash prize of N2, 500 each.

Discovering new talents

The star trek platform which is known for discovering talents also gave birth to new acts such as Emenic, Blasting, Real Kid, Full Moon, Snicky Vicky, Elijah, Real P, Mr. Bomb, T show and Yazzi. All were given few minutes to perform from 11: 35PM to 12:15am.

Next, BMG took over with his rhythmic one tone renditions; performing up to 12: 25AM. He was followed by Crystals who gave a great 15 minutes performance.

KCEE performs at home

The Calabar audience had no choice than to receive their own son KCEE of the rested group KCPRESH with love. He performed to his new singles ‘Knack Me’ and other pieces such as Shokoribobo from the group’s album. He also prayed for the soul of the departed. In his words, ‘ May the souls of the people who died unnecessarily and without cause in this country rest in peace’. He further engaged the audience in Azonto dance competition, with the winner Elijah going away with a Grant London Wrist watch. The 30 minutes performance started at 12:50 and ended at 1:20 am. Before leaving the stage, KCEE gave out his gold necklace and a cash prize to the runner up of the dance contest. The singer also gave out copies of his CDS.

DJ Tony and Gbenga thrilled the crowd with some wide genres of songs as they geared on.

Wizkid in the building

EME’s Wizkid was also in Calabar to give the last leg of the show a pleasant end. Azonto seems to be the dance of the night as he also had a dance competition where a fan Elisha won his face cap. The MOBO award winner and BET nominee was up on stage till 2:05 am.

Wande Coal rocks Calabar

The Mavin apostle got the applause of all, as Calabar indigenes sang along to his songs, mostly in Yoruba. Just like Uyo, he performed to his fellow label mates D’Prince and Dr Sid’s songs; matching them with his own collection of hits.

Legendary singer 2Face Idibia seals the show

Pop icon 2Face Idibia was the last to perform and he gave a fitting close to the successful tour. Idibia performed with a live band to songs from his old and new albums. The newly wedded singer went all the way, surpassing expectations and showing the fans again, why he’s king. Through his songs, 2Baba as he is fondly called condemned hardship and preached love in ‘One Love’.

Star brand manager Omotunde Adenusi who spoke about the concert said it was a success. In his words, ‘The show was a huge success. As the objectives set for the show were fully achieved. And star as a brand has given a platform for Nigeria music to get bigger and better’.
