Hit and Run : 10 Year-old Girl Crushed To Death In Benin
It was a tragic event in Benin City, Last weekend as a 10 year-old girl was crushed to death by a hit-and-run driver at Iguosa, a suburb community located along Ugbowo-Lagos Expressway.
Eyewithness got some information that the girl was knockd down by a Toyota Camry car who was on a top speed along the express road, while the girl was crossing from a blind end due to trailers parking along the road.
One of the eyewitnesses who refused to give his name, blamed the accident on the presence of heavy duty vehicles parked by the side of the road, which made it difficult for pedestrians to check properly before crossing.
“She wanted to cross to the other side of the road but she didn’t notice that a car was coming. As soon as she began to cross, the car came in full speed and hit her and she died instantly.
“Those trailers parked along the road are the cause of most of the accidents. When somebody wants to cross the road, there is no way he can see the other side of the road,” he said.
At the time of the report, the lifeless body of the girl had been removed and deposited at an undisclosed mortuary by the operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
This is a call to the state monitoring body on traffic matters to help pass directives for trailers not to park along the road as this might lead to more deadly incidence in that portion of the road.
