Photos of the day : Sanusi arrives Nigeria, passport seized but later released

Recently suspended CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi has arrived from Niger Republic where he went to attend an ECOWAS event and is currently in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Sahara Reporter reports that his passport was seized on arrival at the airport but it was later released back to him after he argued that he wasn't a criminal.

Protesters set vans ablaze, sought to set fire on CBN gov’s home


Police and protesters clashed in Nigeria’s north Monday as thousands converged on a governor’s office during nationwide fuel price strikes, leaving 30 wounded, including 18 who were shot.

Protesters set two vans ablaze and also sought to set fire to the home of central bank governor Lamido Sanusi in Kano, but were stopped by police.

A union leader also said police shot dead a protester in the commercial capital Lagos as thousands of people demonstrated there.

Police fired tear gas and shot into the air as thousands of protesters converged on the governor’s office in the northern city of Kano as part of a national strike over fuel prices.

A huge crowd of protesters had gathered in Kano, the main city and clashes broke out with police who pushed them back as they tried to enter the governor’s office, an AFP correspondent reported.

“In total, we have 30 wounded, 18 of them with gunshot wounds,” said Red Cross official in Kano Musa Abdullahi, updating an earlier toll of 14 wounded, half of them shot

Forbes Africa Magazine Man Of The Year - Sanusi Lamido Sanusi

Central Bank of Nigeria's Governor, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has been named the first ever Forbes Africa MagazineDD Man of the Year.


Sanusi came out tops in a vote that was keenly contested and included Africa’s richest man Aliko Dangote and Nobel Peace Laureate Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

Access Bank M.D, Aig Imoukhuede Positioned To Take Over From C.B.N Gov, Lamido Sanusi.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi may not be re appointed to his current position when his term expires.

His four years runs out next year - 2012.

Just like the incumbent, his projected replacement is another banker- but with a more enviable track records, Mr Aigboije Aig Imoukhuede, the Managing Director of the financial institution, Access Bank.

Investigations revealed that the plot to replace Sanusi with Imoukhuede is more of politicking than performance.

The Access bank M.D enjoys robust relationship with President Jonathan and is viewed as one of the most influential Nigerians in the presidency today.

The president is believed to tacitly support his CBN ambition.

Informants further revealed that a testament to his close rapport and the esteem he is held is apparent in his appointments into strategic government committee striving to shape the economic policy of the nation.

The move to take over the reigns of the nations apex banking institution is said to also have full banking of powerful figures within his spheres of operation- particularly ex bank MDs still controlling their former place of employment indirectly.
