Confusion over P Square break-up rumour : The Real Truth

Okoye's
Jude Engees Okoye, older brother to the PSquare twins Paul and Peter Okoye has tweeted an alarming message…

As you read this, the entertainment industry is reveberating with shock waves.
The reason(s) for the tweet isn’t clear as at press time and despite the tweet, Jude’s Twitter bio remains- “President/C.E.O Square Records, Northside Music Inc and Northside Entertainment Ltd. PSquare’s Manager/Producer Director …….what else…mypsquare.com”.
But then there are reports the tweet may not be unconnected to the alleged recent fights between Paul amd Peter Okoye.
Speculations are rife that the twins now fight over everything including songs, videos and ideas. Linda Ikeji exclusively reports that the twins had alledgedly fought physical on Wednesday April 16th forcing their dancers to intervene and pull them apart.
Other reports claim that Jude is tired of wadding in, settling the constants spats or even sometimes being a party in the vicious arguments; hence his tweet.
But then, despite evidence of Jude’s tweet, the Public Relations Executive to Psquare, Bayo Adetu, has decribed the story of Jude dumping his brothers as untrue.
He said…“I am too busy to give some wanna be blogger traffic, I don’t know where that report is coming from. Maybe they just want to get traffic to their site. It’s baseless and untrue”.
Nonetheless, we hear that family members, friends and industry professionals are racing to clarify issues with Jude with the aim of banishing such a thought, should it be true!
The PSquare twins are an international sensation with a story that spans back more than 10 years. They have won countless local and international awards, and are music idols worshiped by millions of fans around the world.

MUNACHI - My Relationship with Peter Okoye

MUNACHI
Munachi Abi has been on the limelight after winning the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria( MBGN) crown in 2007, life has never been the same again. Within a very short period  of time, Muna, as she is fondly called by her admirers became a household name especially when she emerged one of the  formidable female  artistes in the Nigerian entertainment scene, floating  her own record label company called, No Koncience. But  while Muna’s  profile was constantly on the rise, so did the number of controversies trailing her.

From her rumoured ‘love affair’ with Peter Okoye, one half of the superstar  duo, P-Square, to her public dispute and reconciliation with rapper, Mode 9, Muna fluctuated between popularity and notoriety. However, in this interview, she addresses some of the nagging issues affecting her personality and career. She also narrated the circumstances that informed her decision to set up  her own record label, No Koncience among other things….

Do you still recall how you felt that fateful day  you were crowned as the Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria, MBGN 2007?

I was excited. I didn’t think I was going to win but I won.
Before you won the beauty pageant, you were with a group called,  The Specimen?
No, I wasn’t with them. They only gave me an opportunity to feature on their album as at that time. That was my first time rapping on wax. I used to write a lot of lyrics until my friend saw my notepad and quickly notified “The Specimen”  about me. They were glad to ask me to join them as they wanted  to see  what I could do with my talent. I would say, I learnt the art on the spot.

Have you written songs for any Nigerian artist?

Yes, back in the days, I wrote a song for J Martins, Waje. I have a good chemistry, I co-wrote the song, “I Wish” with Waje in her current album.
Aside writing songs and rapping, you are also into modelling.

Do you still have that contract with Unilever as Face of Lux?
My contract with Lux is under review. They are trying to renew it.

And your programme  with Sound City. Is it also under review?
I still have an amazing relationship with SoundCity. I worked with them for over a year. We didn’t actually split but at that time, I was trying to get into the music business seriously. You really can’t do a lot of things at the same time. So, I took a break. I can always go back and say, I need my job back.
Looking at your first video, Ifunanya, you played your character well; the love smitten girl and you have the looks too.

Why didn’t you get into Nollywood?
No. I really don’t think I can act or even make it as a good actress although I haven’t tried it. I probably do know how to act, it’s just that I haven’t found the right script yet.

Have you been approached before?
Yes, I do get a lot of scripts. But I still haven’t found that one; when I find it, its going to make everybody cry.

Do you  want to play a tragic character?
Exactly, the kind of story I’m looking forward to interpreting because it moves me.
You recently set up your own record label called,  No Koncience.

Why did you leave RMG to form yours?
I needed to become a little bit more independent and you know one needs to grow. I have  learnt how to handle things on my own and become responsible. It was something I needed to do  because one  cannot continue to be under someone’s wings forever. There comes a time when you have to spread you own wings and fly.

And you have a first single from this label?
Yes, my single “No Tomorrow” is out. It  came out on the 10th of this month, and it’s been good and a video for the song will soon be put together. My album, The Goddess, The hustler” is still receiving finishing touches but I may have to change the name.
Unlike many of your counterparts in the entertainment industry who prefer to climb the ladder of stardom by escalating their biffs with their colleagues.

While your misunderstanding with Mode 9 lasted, you took the pain to call  him on the phone and even tweeted  a public apology,  what informed your decision to re-trace your steps?
I hate to be in enmity with someone. Life is too short for that. It’s not who I am. I have a good relationship with Mode 9, there’s no biff. And really it wasn’t a big issue it’s just you, the media who escalated things, trying to make a mountain out of nothing. You keep hammering on the same question trying to get the person to react negatively and it’s really frustrating. Mode 9 and I are very good friends and we’ll keep it that way.

It is alleged this is partly why you left your former label, RMG, for being too hard on fans with that strong worded press statement that told everyone off?

No, I did not leave RMG for that reason. I still have a good relationship with my former label and I was aware of all the statements written concerning that issue. I left RMG because I needed to start up my own thing; there was nothing more to it. I have no issues whatsoever with RMG.
What’s your opinion about love?
Love is life. It’s the most beautiful thing to happen to anybody.

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes, it could happen. It is possible.

Is this what happened between you and Peter Okoye (PSquare) love at first sight?
Look, I know Lola Omotola very well. I have known her for years and we are really close. All those things you heard or read about us are not true. Peter Okoye and I are friends. I know his family well. I was just invited to be in his video (Ifunanya) and that was it. Nothing more than that. I know how Peter and Lola love each other and I respect their love.  I could never do that to them. I could never bring myself to do anything to hurt them.
It’s good to have you clear the air!
(She interrupts) What you’ll see is another screaming headline, “Muna again denies affair with Peter Okoye.” It’s not fair, it’s heartbreaking and very frustrating. Some of these things you media guys  write about us hurts us so badly.
How have you learnt to deal with rumours about you?
I try to remain focused and I move on.
How supporting has your family been?
My family has always been there for me. My mum particularly, she is my rock.

She’s always asking when am I going to get your song to use as my ringtone?
If offered a role to play  in a steaming love scene who will you do it with?
Maybe, with Johny Depp and Brad Pitt … except Brad Pitt says he won’t be doing sex scenes again because of Angelina Jolie, but for them, I am ready to play more than romantic.

What about  Nollywood Actors?
No. There is no one hot enough for me in Nollywood. No one.

What’s your vision for your new label?
To take over the world. (laughs) really it’s just to grow and be an inspiration to the next generation. To let them know anything and everything is possible once you set your mind to it.

Is marriage knocking on your door?
Yes, I believe it will come when it has to come and you all will know when the time is right.

What’s your favourite dance move?
I really don’t think I have  any particular one. You know as a rapper you aren’t really supposed to dance. You just stand on one spot and wave your hands.

Rumor Calls : P-SQUARE SEPARATES!!!

P Square

According to Hiphopworldmagazine the duo split some days back.
"Born to the same mother, on the same day within just eight minutes of each other, grown up doing almost everything together, the duo of Peter and Paul of P-Square have in January, 2013, have parted ways........... to two different vacation spots
For many, December is the holiday month they look forward to every year. This is not the same for P Square who do back-to-back shows, helping fans enjoy their holiday by performing at concerts, end of year parties and various kinds of events.
P-Square definitely had one of their busiest seasons last year. Now, for these hard working Jacks, it’s time to play; and they are choosing different vacation spots in the United States.
Last week, Paul was spotted in Atlanta, while Peter told us he’s hanging out with in San Francisco with kids Cameron and Lola. The multi-award winning duo and triple Headies winners at the 2012 edition say they’re "chopping their money""

He Wanted What P-Square Worked for 7 years to Achieve…in 1 Year! Jude “Engees” Okoye sheds light on the MayD Split

P Square
Anyone who knows the P-Square story will tell you that Jude “Engees” Okoye is a music industry genius! From producing tracks to directing videos and managing the superstar duo’s career, he’s the man behind the music.

Last year, everyone reacted with shock when it was announced that MayD and Square Records had parted ways. The official statement released during the split made it clear that the reason for the split was “irreconcilable differences“…sounds like a divorce!

While in Uganda a few weeks ago, Jude shed light on the real reason for the split. Based on Jude’s response, it seems as though when it was time to sign the official contract, MayD’s demands superseded what Square Records was willing to offer.

Photos: 40,000 people show up at P-Square's concert in Ghana

Yesterday at the Independence Square was a massive show organized by Malta Guinness to outdoor their newly branded Malta Guinness mineral. The event ‘Top of The World Celebration’ was headlined by P-Square and supported by Sarkodie, the king of Dancehall Samini and Gh One’s Next BIg Thing In Gh winner Strong Man. It was a great show. Sarkodie and Samini rocked but the twins with their 11-man band performed wonderfully. #Ghana4Peace

Ghanaian Artists, R2bess and Sarkodie Boycott Concert Over Unfair Psquare Pay

R2Bees and Sarkodie

R2Bees and Sarkodie (from Ghana) were billed to perform on the same stage at   Malta Guinness sponsored ‘Top of the World Concert’ alongside P-Sqaure (from Nigeria) . It is alleged that the organizers (Charter House) have agreed to pay Psquare  a whooping $200,000 and the Ghanaian musicians (Sarkodie & R2Bees) a chicken $5,000 each (approximately).

Is it fair to pay all African artist same performance fee regardless of their popularity and status?

: May D DARES PSquare; Performs Chop My Money At Felabration

May D and P Square

May D may or may not know what he has done; but the tides are already heating up and soon, there may be just another messy war between him and Square records barely two months after he was dropped by the label.

At Felabration 2012 held recently at the New Afrika Shrine, Akinmayokun May D Awodumila was one of the selected artistes to perform and indeed he performed.

May D threw caution to the wind and stormed the stage with P Square’s Do as I do which featured Tiwa Savage and himself.

He didn’t stop there as he went quickly into his award winning single Soundtrack before diving headlong into Chop my Money. May D wrapped up his act with his hit single Ile Ijo.

In all of P Square’s songs performed on this night, May D didn’t stick to his lines, rather, he took the entire songs from start from finish.

The crowd, however, didn’t seem to notice or perhaps were not bothered as they hollered and danced away the entire time.

Square Records boss Jude Engees Okoye had in a statement issued in August this year, announced that the label was severing ties with May D due to irreconcilable differences. A month later, May D launched own label Confam Entertainment.

His single Soundtrack fetched him the ‘Best R&B Single’ award at The Headies this year.

Nigerian duo P Square, Big Boys, Big Deals, Big Dreams

P-Suare & Ross
Most African musicians find it easy maintaining their form after they land mainstream success, while others simply lose grit, and slowly but regrettably, sink into complete oblivion after working hard to get to the top.

In this part of the world, there is a wide, blurred gap between underground acts and those in the A-List category. The setting is such that unsigned acts struggle to even get their demos played on radio. Plus, there is an accompanying pain of staying irrelevant as a yet-to-be-signed act for a very long time.

Underground acts always watch from afar, almost with a show of life in the fast-lane and how-sweet-it-will-sound while still being irrelevant. Half of the time, they never get to experience real mainstream status and how well the big boys and girls live. It's a tough environment out here.

The features of persevering and keeping hope alive as an underground act often include being stripped of everything you've put together over the years or being taken for granted by a not-so-qualified producer who doesn't have the slightest clue what the business of music is all about.

So when, through an artist's hard work and persistence, he is able to penetrate into mainstream appreciation, it is important that the hustle that led him to the Promised Land must be protected or at least revered. Some respect this creed, others don't.

Nigerian music duo P Square is one of the continent's finest pair of musicians, who are protecting the years of hard work that got them into the top core of the continent's most respected acts.

Recently collaborating with Maybach Music boss Rick Ross and fellow African-American Akon on songs off their current album 'The Invasion' to wild global reviews, there is certainly no stopping them, as they take the competition to their contemporaries.

The duo, made up of twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye, is Nigeria's biggest and most successful musical duo of the past decade, winning multiple awards and being nominated by a good number of award schemes domestically and internationally.

P Square's consistency and sense of force over the years has endeared them to a very large following that is almost becoming cult-like. Across the continent, and in most parts of the world, they sell out shows, command a lot of local presence, and are able to sell thousands of records apart from the ready-made sales in Nigeria - a rare occurrence in the life of an African musician.

'The Invasion', a solid album made up of beautifully-calculated and well-composed songs produced with a global audience in mind, has proven to be filled with well thought-out material.

'Chop my Money', a fast, up-tempo song off the album, is already topping the charts in most parts of the continent. The song and P Square's ratings were both refreshed by the collaboration of Senegalese-born American singer Akon on it, which led to a remix version.

The union with Akon was the result of the duo signing with his Konvict Muzik label in a deal that will see P Square and other Nigerian acts Wizkid and Tuface acting as representatives of Akon's label in Africa. P Square thus joins other international acts like Brick and Lace, T-Pain, and Lady Gaga who are also part of the Konvict Muzik family.

And just when the collaboration with Akon became the talk of the town, a video of a remixed version of their 'Beautiful Onyinye' track - also from the current album - featuring hip hop heavyweight Rick Ross started making waves. Social media networks buzzed with intense blitz about how awesome the video was.

The idea to have Ross, who is considered a modern day hip hop class act, chant a few lines on a track that had its own beauty worked a lot of magic, and the video has remained one of the most watched online.

For most African acts, this is the farthest and highest you can go.

However, the duo still shows no signs of letting up. They are clearly interested in spreading their wings, and have also signed a strategic deal with Universal Music Group of South Africa in an agreement that will see the music company handle P Square's digital and CD sales all over the world.

The deal reportedly 'covers P-Square's past albums and DVDs, including, Game Over, their 2007 album' which sold millions of copies worldwide.

'It's a great pleasure and excitement to announce that from today onwards P Square is signing to Universal music', The New Age newspaper quotes executive director at Universal Music SA, Lindelani Mkhize as saying.

'This is a platform that will allow our fans to get our music as it is released, anywhere you are if P-Square says our album is coming out ... you'll be able to get it', said Peter Okoye.

From very humble beginnings, P Square has gradually matured into the duo every investor interested in music as a commercial venture would want to work with.

Through a lot of hard work, the duo has almost become synonymous with success. Their 2009 album 'Danger', for instance, sold some one million copies in just eight days after official release. That was a huge figure.

P Square started off as dancers during their school days, where they formed a group that mainly mimicked the steps of other iconic dancers like Michael Jackson and MC Hammer.

The twin brothers later found music a worthy experiment, and got their breakthrough with the 2003 album 'Last Night'. The album made P Square an instant household name in Nigeria, and in Africa. Other albums like 'Get Squared' (2005), 'Game Over' (2007), and 'Danger' have followed.

A talented duo with very danceable songs to their credit - the type most of their fans have gotten used to - P Square's line of music usually focuses on the more afro-centric kind that combines Western and African rhythms to create a fine tapestry of eclectic, soulful, yet hard-hitting drum patterns, chord progressions, and lyrics of sampled songs.

The end result usually is a carefully-created electronic hook or rhythm, with a feel that can only be awesome, cutting across various age, gender, and geographical boundaries, hence their huge popularity base across the world.

EXCLUSIVE:We Don’t Have Private Jet- P Square

While Africa and fans of Peter and Paul Okoye aka P-Square are still rejoicing over the duo’s supposed acquisition of a private jet, information from the camp of the Nigerian duo indicates that the group does not own a private jet, contrary to initial reports.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Peace FM’s ‘Entertainment Review’, publicist for
the group, Bayo Adetu, disclosed that it was not true that P-Square had acquired a private jet but rather, the group had a deal with a private jet company, who had designated one private jet to it to use when it deemed it necessary, stressing that Peter and Paul did not own it. “Concerning the private jet, I think it’s been added to P-Square’s entourage because we have a deal with a private jet company, so I mean whenever P-Square has any official show, they are entitled to travel with the private jet anytime any day”.

Nonetheless, P-Square still remains the only artiste in Africa to sign such an exclusive deal with a jet company which gives it full access to a jet at any point in time. Asked to confirm P-Square’s reported deal with Universal Records, he said, “Yeah, it’s true. The contract was signed on Thursday, 31st May 2012”. He also cleared doubts that the deal was only limited to South Africa and not Universal Records Worldwide.

I think there was some misinformation because it is a worldwide contract, but the only thing is that it was signed in South Africa so the representatives from South Africa must have transferred the documents back to their headquarters, which of course, is worldwide. It is not limited to South Africa or Africa, it’s a worldwide thing”. He explained that this meant a lot of good things were coming their way and this deal was just one of them. “Both parties are happy about the contract and we are both comfortable with everything that comes with it.

That is all I can say for now”. Speaking about P-Sqaure’s latest collaboration with American rapper Rick Ross, Bayo said it was a big collaboration titled ‘Beautiful Onyinye’, and they just released both the video and the audio worldwide, adding that the video for the song was shot in Miami, Florida and Cape Town in South Africa, and directed by the elder brother of P-Square, Jude Okoye, who also doubles as the twins’ manager.

Asked how much it cost to shoot such a world standard video, Bayo said,
“It cost millions of Naira. I wouldn’t say exactly how much it cost them but of course when you look at the quality of the video and what it took them to travel from Nigeria with their crew to America, back to South Africa and any other thing, you should have an idea of how much it takes. So I will not mention particular figures but trust me, it cost millions of Naira”.

As to whether it was true P-Square paid money to American artistes to feature on its songs, he answered in the negative, saying, “The truth of the matter and the good thing about these collaborations is that they come as a mutual agreement with all the parties involved. Nigerian music is improving by the day and it is attracting international attention and most of the international stars too always like to work with the Nigerian stars.

So far so good, P-Square has never paid any money to anyone to feature or to do any collaboration with them”. According to Bayo, P-Square had an official contract with Akon’s Konvict Music and it was part of the contract for both of them to work together with several artistes. “There are still better things they are going to do together, so it’s not a matter of Akon paying P-Square or P-Square paying Akon; it is a contractual thing and they are both doing well”.

Concerning rumours that P-Square had still not received the 1million dollar price for winning the ultimate award, ‘Best Artiste Of The Year’ at the Kora Awards 2010, Bayo could not deny or confirm. “Concerning the Kora issue, we have decided not to make any official statement about it because there are so many other issues attached to it, and there are so many people involved including the Kora Awards organizers, the Nigerian government and other people.

It is not just a P-Square thing and because it is not only P-Square who are involved in it, we have decided not to make any official comment about that”. When Kwasi Aboagye, host of the show, asked him to be specific as to whether the money had been paid or not, he could not give a definite answer. “The bottom line or the truth of the matter is that we are happy we are moving on with our game and we don’t want to be detracted by the Kora Awards thing, whether they have paid us or not”.

P-Square remains the only artiste that has scored platinum with all past three albums including its latest album ‘Danger’. Its debut album, ‘Last Nite’, which was released in 2003, made the duo a household name in Nigeria. It followed it up with its second album titled ‘Get Squared’ in July 2005 with hits like ‘Temptation’ and ‘Busy Body’. In November 2007, P-Square released its third award-winning platinum album titled ‘Game Over’, with hit songs like ‘Do Me’ and ‘Roll it’.

It received more accolades for its style and its collection of breath-taking music videos. It released its fourth album titled ‘Dancer’ and it released its fifth album, ‘Invasion’ on 25th July 2011. At the Kora All Africa Music Awards 2010 held in Burkina Faso, P-Square won the topmost award, ‘Best Artiste of the Year’ with an ultimate cash prize of 1million dollars. The group has been nominated for the newly created ‘Best International Act’ category for the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards.

2Face, P-Square, Sound Sultan, D'Banj, Others; Who Is The Most Consistent Nigerian Artiste?

The Nigerian music industry has really gone global. When the likes of Junior and Pretti, Remedies, Plantashun Boiz and others brought vibes and jives into hip hop in Nigerian music, not many thought it would soon be a global thing.

Back in the days, club DJs were short of Nigerian songs to play in clubs. But now, DJs can play Nigerian songs on a stretch of 100hours without playing a foreign song in between.

Foreign music has gradually faded off in Nigeria unlike in the early 2000's. What we now have is featuring A-list American artiste in our local songs.

Wyclef, R-Kelly, Akon, Rick Ross, Busta Rhymes and some others have all featured in songs done by our local artistes. Some years ago, this feat would have be like building a castle in the skies.

Since early 2000 till now, many Nigerian artistes have come and gone. Some have managed to stay while others have stayed relevant for a stretch of 10 years.

One cannot forget the king of them all; 2Face. There is P-Square, Sound Sultan, Eldee, D'Banj and others.

In your own opinion, who do you think is Nigeria's most consistent artiste?

P-Square Gets Universal Music Group Distribution Deal

Going by reports and a tweet from Jude Okoye, who is the elder brother and manager of P-Square music group, P-Square has been signed by renowned music label, Universal Music Group (UMG), South Africa.

They were signed by the South African imprint of the label in Johannesburg, South Africa, today at a press conference held in the city.

According to what todaysnigerria.com gathered, the deal is a music distribution deal. Universal Music Group would be responsible for the distribution of their songs worldwide.

Last year, the group was signed under Akon's Konvict Music. They went ahead to release a remix of one of their songs, Chop My Money, which featured the American music star and their signing, Mister May D.
We are getting feelers that the deal was made possible with the help of Akon, whose label P-Square are also signed on. We also learnt that Akon has a music distribution deal with UMG.

P Square Buys Private Jet [PICTURES]

The sensational singing duo, Peter and Paul Okoye popularly called P Square have now acquired a private jet if what we gathered is anything to go by.

According to information, the award winning twins recently coughed out several millions of dollars to pick this private airbus from one of the Arabians.

And with their latest acquisition, Peter and Paul are now the biggest boys in the Nigerian music industry.

One of their tweets recently gave the duo out about their new acquisition.

“Jetting privately....thanks to God and the fans. You all made it possible. Baba God done settle us...I no go lie. Just included on our list...that very list......shhhhhh.”

” Peter tweetted a couple of hours ago.

If it’s not one of the publicity stunts, can authoritatively reveal that the multiple award winning hip-hop sensation, P-Square, have acquired a private jet!

That P-Square top the list of few of the Nigeria’s new generation music stars, who are making money from music, is a known fact. With landed properties in Jos, Port Harcourt and their newly built Lagos mansion worth N400 million, it’s no doubt that the dynamic duo are in the millionaires club.

The P-Square duo has two Sequioa Sports Utility Vans (SUVs), one hummer SUV, truck bus, Toyota Altima among other automobiles.
