Watch Video of Shakira unveils the official 2014 World Cup song

Shakira
Shakira, Colombian pop star has unveiled the new official song for the 2014 World Cup.

The 37-year-old superstar - and long-term partner of Barcelona's Gerard Pique - also had the honour of recording the official song for the 2010 World Cup. Now, she has unleashed "La La La" onto the world, and you can hear it right here via the magic of this embedded video:

Now, The Rio Report knows as much about pop music as it does about noun declensions in Serbo-Croat, so we'll gloss over the fact that we had to click the 'mute' button before the half-way mark for fear that we'd start bleeding from the ears.

Still, we'd imagine that even hardcore fans of the songstress would be slightly dismayed to discover that it is not a new song, but merely a re-worded version of 'Dare', one of the tracks from her new album, 'Shakira', which is the first record she has made for five years.

"It's an upbeat, Brazilian track," she told the Daily Star, adding that the lyrics, "are personal."

The Rio Report can't help but think that was a missed opportunity. If she was going to re-word one of her other songs for the tournament then surely 'Hips Don't Lie' would have been the obvious choice: "Oh baby when you dribble like that / You make a defender go mad... You know my free kicks don't lie" and so on. Brilliant, right?

'La La La' will have its work cut out matching the success of Shakira's song for the 2010 World Cup, incidentally. 'Waka Waka' hit the top 20 in most of Europe, and became the biggest-selling World Cup song of all time - as well as the eighth-most-watched music video ever on YouTube, just ahead of Miley Cyrus's 'Wrecking Ball'. Here it is below, so you can help it try to overtake seventh-placed Psy with 'Gentleman', should you so desire.
