Breaking News: Military Frees 593 Detained Boko Haram Suspects

Nigeria’s military on Monday released 593 people after clearing them of having ties with the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, a spokesman said.

The military has arrested thousands in its fight against the insurgency aimed at creating an Islamic caliphate in the northeast, now in its eighth year, which has killed over 20,000 people and forced more than two million to flee their homes.

The chief of army staff directed that those arrested be “released unconditionally if found not to have anything to do with insurgency or Boko Haram”, said Brigadier General Abdulraman Kuliya.

He added that the 593 who were freed had been arrested in multiple locations, held for varying lengths of time up to three months and were comprised of elderly people, men, women and children.

The military said they were handed over to the state government in Borno – the birthplace of the insurgency.

Attacks or attempted attacks bearing the hallmarks of Boko Haram in crowded areas have escalated since the end of the rainy season late last year. However, most have either been foiled or the suicide bombers managed only to blow themselves up.

In the most recent attack, two female suicide bombers detonated explosives on the edge of the university in Borno state capital Maiduguri on Monday, blowing themselves up but causing no other casualties.

Photos: Bird fell and turned into a human being in Port Harcout after it got electrocuted

According to Efcc Chiko who shared the story on Facebook, a flying bird allegedly fell down and turned into a human being after it got electrocuted. she wrote

'Bird flying at Agip junction fell and turned into Human being ..

This morning along Agip, Port-Harcourt a bird that was flying got electrocuted and fell. The little terrified boy standing behind the signpost rushed to pick the bird and immediately it turned to this wretched horrifying looking dead woman. Making everyone run (even those shouting the BLOOD OF JESUS).

Some of these horrifying deaths, accidents and even suicides are caused by these demons manipulating and bewitching people......

The devil is out to destroy lives but God is also out to defend and protect His children. No one can challenge His authority in your life. WE WILL WIN THIS WAR AGAINST THE PRINCIPALITIES AND POWERS.....

Lifeless child allegedly resurrects after prayers at the Lord's Chosen Charismatic Ministries (Photos)

According to Facebook user, and church member, Philip Omeire who shared the photos, a boy who died while the mum was taking him to church resurrected after prayers at the Lord's Chosen Charismatic Ministries.

According to him, the lifeless boy sneezed after the prayers. Read what he wrote after the cut...

"DEAD SON BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE AFTER PASTOR'S PRAYER TODAY
Sis Helen Michael will never forget this day in the annals of her history. Her miracle is that which is not common among men. She came with a sorrowful heart to the service today as a result of her son (1year plus) who was terribly ill and later died on her way to church. She's was so optimistic that God would bring him back to her life.

Her implicit faith was brought to life when our beloved Daddy in the Lord was praying during INSTANT MIRACLE SESSION, the lifeless baby sneezed and came back to life. Her testimony caused an uproar in today's service.

Indeed, our God is faithful.

Do you have a hopeless situation? The only good God who remembered Sis Helen shall remember you today. I can see everything turning around for your good in Jesus' name.

Zimbabwean prophet cast out demons from people by rolling drum on them (Photo)

Prophet Wiriranayi Gomani of Jubilee City International Church in Zimbabwe, is reportedly doing wonders by using a drum to roll over congregants or walk on them to cast out demons.

According to to the acclaimed man of God, after healing them they will be in comatose in other to get spiritual strength from angels.
'When we heal people they will be in comatose a spirit where angels will be surrounding them and giving them strength spiritually,' claims the prophet.
"I do not use juju or any spirit but it is the power of God l support that with a verse in the bible Genesis chapter 2 verse 21 to 24 when Adam was put into a deep sleep by God to remove a rib so as to create Eve without any pain.
'In a similar incident in Exodus chapter 24 Moses took 40 days and 40 nights without food and he never got hungry but was finally advised to build Ark that is comatose,' he added saying.
According to Kwayedza local media, many congregants of his church are testifying that the prophet is doing wonders in their life.

Russia moves to label Jehovah's Witnesses as 'extremist organization'

The Russian justice ministry has moved to label Jehovah's Witnesses an 'extremist organization' following years of government suspicion toward the group.

The lawsuit filed with the Russia’s Supreme Court against the national headquarters of the country's Jehovah’s Witnesses wasn't dated and has not yet been scheduled for legal action, USA Today reported.
In response to the filing, the press office for the Russian branch of the religion released a statement Thursday saying it would represent 'dire consequences' for religious freedom in Russia if approved.
'Extremism is deeply alien to the Bible-based beliefs and morality of Jehovah's Witnesses.
Persecution of the faithful for peaceful anti-extremism legislation is built on frank fraud, incompetent individual 'experts' and, as a result, a miscarriage of justice,' the statement claimed.
According to the press office, the decision, if passed by the court, would directly affect about 175,000 followers at more than 2,000 congregations in the country.
However, it's not the first time Jehovah’s Witnesses have faced legal battles. In 2009, a court ruled a Russian-language version of the group’s publication The Watchtower an extremist publication and barred it. In 2015, a Russian court ruled the group’s website was also an extremist publication.

Mental illness delayed his youth service for nine years – Says brother of doctor who killed his mother

Cletus, one of the older brothers of  Emmanuel Ogah, the medical doctor who stabbed their 59-year-old mother, Janet, to death penultimate Thursday, has revealed that his younger brother (Emmanuel) graduated from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2007.

But he said due to ‘depression relapse’ he suffers occasionally, he went for his one year national youth service in 2016, nine years after.

Cletus revealed that Emmanuel was 27 years then when he graduated, having been a brilliant student.

According to Punch, he said all the seven children of their late mother are graduates and four of them graduated from ABU. Cletus said he read Chemical Engineering.

He said Emmanuel did well in his secondary school certificate result and scored well over 4 points in Cumulative Grade Point Average when he graduated in Medicine from ABU in 2007.

He said, “He made 4.38 as his CGPA at ABU.

While Cletus said it was true that he suffered ‘depression relapse’ on some occasions, he said the family had taken him to certain psychiatric facilities for medical intervention in Kaduna, Kano, Lagos and Uyo.

He said,

“We noticed the problem of depression in him in 2008, when he was doing his housemanship. He was reported to have spoken rudely to his superiors.
“He was sent away from that place. Again, in subsequent years, he went to some other places for the housemanship, the same thing happened.
“We took him to the Psychiatric Hospital at Yaba, Lagos in 2014 where he was receiving treatment and doing his housemanship.
“Eventually he completed it at this place, but he was still asked to go and serve the one year national service, because they said he was 27 when he graduated from ABU. That was what he was doing at Jigawa State, when he returned last Wednesday and he killed our mother on Thursday.”

On that fateful day, Emmanuel, who was believed to be under some ‘forces’ controlling him, knifed their mother to death at her restaurant located along Lafenwa-Itele Road, Aparadija in Ado Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.

He did not kill the mother in their residence on Number 16 Ololade Lateef Street, Aparadija, Lafenwa-Itele, as earlier reported.

The picture of the corpse which had gone viral on the social media was gory enough. Emmanuel disembowelled the mother, and gave her other deep cuts on the face and neck.

Also the video of his ‘detention’ inside burglar proof section of the restaurant after he had done the havoc, did not portray him as being coherent in all the questions put to him on why he killed the mother.

Cletus, who said he got to the scene two hours after Emmanuel had killed their mother, said he(Emmanuel) was still being ‘detained’  in the shop, when he arrived.

He said when he jabbed him and asked him why he killed their mother, he suddenly became remorseful, saying he never knew what came upon him.

He said,
“When I arrived our mother’s restaurant two hours after the incident, Emmanuel was still being held inside the shop, I moved closer to him, jabbed him twice and asked him: ‘why did you kill our mother?’ All he could say was ‘brother, I did not know what happened, brother I did know what happened’ and he started crying.
“Then he began to say some incoherent things.
“I believe there were ‘some forces’ at work on him. Because from the responses, it seemed that he came to his senses suddenly and showed remorse. Emmanuel neither smoked nor drank alcohol. I had taken him out on some occasions.”

Cletus said their mother was a loving mother who supported her husband, Bernard Ogah, now a retired soldier to train all of them.

He recalled, “I could remember in my own case, my mother plaited hair for people in the barracks to raise money and supported in paying my school fees then while I was in ABU.
“My mother gave her all to her children.”

A service of songs was organised for her on Thursday in front of her former shop, where her virtues were celebrated.

One Edgar Zomboss, who claimed to know Emmanuel closely having once worked with him posted about three messages. He described him as a ‘good friend of mine’ and ‘a good person back then.’ He also wondered what must have gone wrong.

He posted,
“No sir. The guy has schizophrenia. I worked with him. He was a very good friend of mine and I knew him on a one on one basis.
“He used to be a good person back then in school. I think something terrible had harpened to him somehow.
“Oh my God, Dr Ogah! Dr Ogah!! I know Dr Ogah. He is (was) a very good friend of mine. He has schizophrenia and I am ready to testify on his behalf.”

"Bury Me In My Mummy's Coffin" - Dying 7-Year Old Makes Heart wrenching Last Wish

A dying seven-year-old schoolboy is asking the public to help him fulfil his final wish - to be buried with his mother so she can look after him in heaven.

Filip Kwasny, from Colchester, Essex, made the wish from his bed in London's Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital where chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant have failed to cure his leukaemia.

Now, as the cancer spreads to his intestines, Filip receives only palliative care to make him comfortable as his short life comes to an end.
Kind-hearted strangers have been donating to help him be buried in the same coffin as his mother, who he lost to cancer when he was two.

Barely able to speak, he yesterday sent a personal thank you from his bed on the hospital's Fox Ward, saying: 'Thanks for helping make my wish come true.'

Filip was diagnosed with juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia (JMML) - an accumulation of abnormal blood cells in the bone marrow - in September last year.

It followed a diagnosis of neurofibromatosis type 1 when he was two, from which Filip, a pupil at Friar Grove Primary School in Colchester, initially recovered.
His father, Piotr Kwasny, 40, is desperate to raise £6,500 to raise his wife's coffin which has been underground for five years and re-bury her with their son.

'He says that I'm his angel that is looking after him here and that his mum will look after him when he is in heaven,' Piotr explained from his son's hospital bed.

'I don't know how well he remembers his mother as he was so young when she passed away, but he has visited her grave when he was well enough to speak to her.

'Filip wants to be buried with his mother so we will need to organise that locally and re-bury them together. He wants her to look after him. I will only be able to take Filip back to Poland myself.

'His step-mother and siblings will have to stay in the UK, as I do not have the means to arrange for passports and transportation to Poland for them all.

'This is just a very stressful and distressing time for all of us. I did not imagine that I would have to bury my child... you shouldn't go before your child.'
As Piotr is himself ill with spina bifida (a gap in his spine), one kidney, diabetes and hypertension (high blood pressure), he cannot work and has not got the funds to pay for it himself.

And Filip is simply too ill to travel to Poland while he is still alive. 'The doctors do not know how long Filip has left,' Piotr said.

'There is a bell in the Fox Ward outside Filip's room. Ward patients ring the bell three times when their treatment is done and they are leaving. Filip, my son, will never get to ring that bell.'

Filip, who knows he is dying, has told his dad that he wants to be buried in the same coffin as his beloved mum, Agnieszka, who died aged 33 on November 12, 2011.

She is buried in her home village of Wadowice, southern Poland, the same location where she married Filip's father in 2009 and where her boy hopes eventually to join her.

Piotr, who has now remarried and has a two-year-old daughter and two step-children, told how his late wife died shortly after developing sarcoma, a cancer of the connecting tissue.

'My wife had a large growth on her neck, I believe her lymph nodes, but we didn't know what that was,' he explained.

It was a devastating blow for Piotr when just a year later his two-year-old son was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 1, a condition causing tumours to grow on the nerves.'She was diagnosed with sarcoma. The cancer spread throughout her body. She only weighed 3 stones when we lost her.'

Remembering how his son's health deteriorated before the diagnosis, Piotr said: 'Filip had spots on his face and body in Poland before we came to the UK and the doctors gave him cream for the rash.

'When we came to the UK the rash did not improve, so I took him to the doctor's here.

'After many subsequent visits to the doctor they finally did lots of tests and discovered that he had neurofibromatosis type 1 in 2013.

'The doctors said that they needed to do more tests but that Filip was okay for now.'

Filip recovered well but his health took a downward turn in September last year.

Abusive Christian husband sue wife in Sharia court, Abuja, accuses her of "praying and worshiping God too much"

Emeka Ugwuonye of the Due Process Advocates, who is the woman's lawyer shared the post on Facebook yesterday. Read below:
"The third major case of the day today: The man that knocked off the teeth of his wife showed his true color. Fellow Advocates, today has been a terrible day for me. I actually had more battles than I have revealed to you.
There was a third case. Remember the man in Abuja who beat his wife and knocked off three of her teeth. I told you he was being arraigned yesterday and we were asked to choose a court. That was moved to today. Just before he was to be taken to court, he went flat on his stomach and began to plead and beg his wife to have the mercy of the Lord Jesus Christ on him Everybody joined in begging the woman not to press on with the case. They even begged her to beg DPA.

After all the begging, the woman agreed on the following conditions: (1) The man would be on probation for one year. He is not to touch his wife even once, otherwise this charge will be revived. He wrote an undertaking to that effect. (2) He will not yell at her or threaten her again. The man signed twice on every page.
With the undertaken, everything seemed okay. The woman went home. And the man was released. But when she got home, she found out that the man had, unknown to her, filed a case against her in Sharia Court. Can you imagine? This man and his wife have been Christians from Imo State. Indeed, one of the things the man accused his wife of was that she was praying and worshiping God too much. Among the people the man called to beg his wife were Pastors and church people. But the man sued the woman in a Sharia Court. He wants them to impose Islamic judgement on his Christian wife. (I attached the summons from the Sharia Court so you will not think he is joking again).

Now, I am defending this woman. We are her lawyers. But I know nothing about the Sharia law. I am determined to go to that court. So, please anyone who has a copy of the Koran and the Sharia code should help me. I will spend this weekend studying sharia law so that I can defend this lady in the sharia court. My first line of argument is that the sharia court lacks jurisdiction since this woman is born again Christian. Also, i will seek to revoke that man's probation. He signed it on bad faith and he breached the terms same day he signed it"

Governor El-Rufai To Buhari: Take charge now, things are falling apart

Governor Nasir El-Rufai, in a rare memo to President Muhammadu Buhari, told him how bad the nation is faring under him, how the president’s policies, actions and in-actions have contributed to the nation’s woes, and what could be done to steer Nigeria back to greatness.

El-Rufai sent the 30-page memo, published by SR on Thursday, to Buhari on September 2016.

In the memo, he touched several areas, ranging from the ailing economy, the dynamics of the nation’s politics, lack of coercion within the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, and the poor relationship between the president and the national leader of the APC, Bola Tinubu, and other party leaders, including the APC governors.

He said Mr. Buhari was yet to have control over the party structures and blamed the situation partly on the people who were advising the president.

He said many of the party leaders – like Mr. Tinubu, the former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Musa Kwankwaso – were feeling aggrieved that they were most often not consulted by the president or by those that the president assigned such duties to.

“This may not be your intention or outlook, but that is how it appears to those that watch from afar,” Mr. El-Rufai said.

“This situation is compounded by the fact that some officials around you seem to believe and may have persuaded you that current APC State Governors must have no say and must also be totally excluded from political consultations, key appointments and decision-making at the federal level.

“These politically-naive ‘advisers’ fail to realise that it is the current and former state governors that may, as members of NEC of the APC, serve as an alternative locus of power to check the excesses of the currently lopsided and perhaps ambivalent NWC.

“Alienating the governors so clearly and deliberately ensures that you have near-zero support of the party structure at both national and state levels.”

Mr. El-Rufai said Mr. Buhari’s closest aides like the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, SGF, and the president’s Chief of Staff weren’t fit to manage the president’s politics.

“The SGF is not only inexperienced in public service but is lacking in humility, insensitive and rude to virtually most of the party leaders, ministers and governors.

“The Chief of staff is totally clueless about the APC and its internal politics at best as he was neither part of its formation nor a participant in the primaries, campaign and elections.”

The governor also wrote on the Senate President, Bukola Saraki’s corruption trial and the frosty relationship between Mr. Buhari and the senate.

He told the president that the federal civil servants across the country were so used to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the PDP way of doing things, so much so that their loyalty was to the opposition party, because of the several years of the PDP’s administration in the country.

“Mr. President, there is a perception that our government has been captured by a shadowy public service/PDP cabal such that we have won elections but the country is still run largely by these elements that are hostile to you and to us all.

“There is a strong perception that your inner circle or kitchen cabinet is incapable, unproductive and sectional. The quality and the undue concentration of key appointments to the North-East and exclusion of South-East are mentioned as evidence of this.

There is a perception that your ministers, some of whom are competent and willing to make real contributions, have no clear mandate, instructions and access to you. Ministers are constitutional creations Mr. President and it is an aberration that they are expected to report to the Chief of Staff on policy matters.

“Mr. President, there is an emerging view in the media that you are neither leading the party nor the administration and those neither elected nor accountable appear to be in charge, and therefore the country is adrift.”

Mr. El-Rufai, a well-known political ally of Mr. Buhari, said bluntly in the memo that the APC administration under Mr. Buhari has failed to live up to the expectations of Nigerians who voted the party into power.

“In very blunt terms, Mr. President, our APC administration has not only failed to manage expectations of a populace that expected overnight ‘change’ but has failed to deliver even mundane matters of governance outside of our successes in fighting BH insurgency and corruption,” Mr. El-Rufai said, adding that the general feelings among the party supporters today was that the government wasn’t doing well.

On the economic front, Mr. El-Rufai acknowledged that Mr. Buhari inherited a bad situation, but said that the administration, having been in power for more than a year now, could not, therefore, continue to blame the previous administration for the hardship in the country.

“We were elected precisely because Nigerians knew that the previous administration was mismanaging resources and engaged in unprecedented waste and corruption.

“We must, therefore, identify the roots of our enduring economic under-performance as a nation, and present a medium-term national plan and strategy to turn things around.”

Mr. El-Rufai provided the president with detailed and insightful analysis of the nation’s economy and offered suggestions on what could be done to put the nation back on the pathway to prosperity.

For instance, he said that Nigeria was currently producing less electricity than the city of Dubai, and that the power sector reform that was started in 2000, earlier than the reforms in the telecoms sector, was now in serious crisis and nearly at the point of total collapse.

On the state of the transport sector, he told the president, “Inter-state (Federal) roads are generally in a state of disrepair. The national rail system is still the colonial narrow gauge constructed by the British for the extraction of needed raw materials rather than for the encouragement of intra-national trade and connectivity.

“The dual track, standard gauge national railway system initiated by the Obasanjo administration in 2006 has been partly abandoned in favour of piecemeal implementation of sections rather than the integrated programme.

“There is significant potential in the development of inland waterways but there has been no serious effort at seeing the dredging of Rivers Niger and Benue to completion.

“The aviation sector is largely private and mostly insolvent. Virtually all the major airlines are beholden to AMCON, and their services are poor, unreliable and expensive.”

He advised the president to, among other things, appoint for himself a “high profile” economic adviser, as well as set up a two-level economic team – one at a political level to be chaired by the Vice President, and another at a technical level consisting of the heads of key economic agencies “to do the more detailed technical analysis and present options for decision and action”.

Mr. El-Rufai said, “The President must communicate actively and directly with the Nigerian public about his vision – the government’s plans, strategy and roadmap to take the country out of the current, dire economic situation.

“We need a five-year national development strategy and plan urgently.”

SHOCKER!! Prominent Muslim Lecturer To Take Prophet TB Joshua To Court For Calling Jesus 'God'

Sheikh Hussaini Yusuf Mabera, a front-line Islamic lecturer, debater, author and conference speaker has threatened to take renowned Nigerian Pastor T.B. Joshua to court.

According to a fiery Facebook post on 13th March 2017, the pastor’s crime lies in the fact that he regularly describes Jesus Christ as God.

“I am filing a case to the Federal High Court of Nigeria against Pastor T.B. Joshua and co-pastors for speaking a lie against Jesus Christ by calling him God,” Sheikh Mabera began in a Facebook post which soon went viral.

Admitting that he regularly watched Joshua’s popular television channel Emmanuel TV, the Nigerian Islamist continued, “I was completely aghast when I heard the ‘so-called’ Prophet T.B. Joshua of Emmanuel TV calling Jesus God in the presence of thousands of his audience, among whom were professors, doctors, reverend fathers and mothers, pastors and bishops,”

He added that, from his own research, the Bible itself is replete with evidence contradicting the deification of Jesus Christ.

Sheikh Mabera, who has a school where he trains other Muslims in the art of defending their faith, continued by concluding T.B. Joshua and his ilk lack “proper understanding” of Scriptural truths.

“As I was watching T.B. Joshua speaking through Emmanuel TV and his audience helplessly watching and listening to his accumulated lies and unfounded praise-singing directed at Jesus, I almost cried with automatic alacrity when he said that Jesus is Almighty God. My conclusion was that both TB Joshua and other Christians actually read their Bible without proper understanding of what they are reading.”

The fiery Islamic advocate then quoted several Scriptures to support his claims that Jesus Christ was a “servant of God”, not God Himself.

“There are millions of facts from the Scriptures and other rational facts that authentically proved that Jesus does not have even the least qualification of being God,” he opined.

Mabera ended his post by declaring Joshua was “deceiving and misguiding” his “innocent followers” with “preposterous lies”.

“Let us meet in the court of law and debate it out. Enough is Enough,” the statement on Facebook ended.

According to information available online, Yusuf Mabera has debated several Christian clerics on various topics, regularly traversing the shores of Nigeria with his message.

How governors, senators and other high-profile suspects stopped Magu's confirmation

Ibrahim Magu’s confirmation for Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) chairman was rejected again yesterday – no thanks to some governors, senators and high-profile suspects.

The governors were said to have been angry with Magu over the ongoing probe of the alleged diversion of N19 billion from the London-Paris Club loan refund.Seven governors have been implicated in the scandal..

Some high profile suspects were said to have wielded influence to frustrate Magu’s confirmation “to pay him back in his own coin”

A source told The Nation

“All attempts to prevail on Magu to halt the investigation failed and the governors have no choice than to engage in lobbying to truncate the confirmation.
“Although a governor from the Northeast did his best to persuade his colleagues to spare Magu, some of the governors vowed not to take the risk.
“At a point, the governors sent emissaries to the Acting EFCC chairman, including some government officials, but he did not shift ground.
“The position of the governors was that the Presidency was in the picture of the deductions from the loan refunds but the EFCC’s probe was seen as an embarrassment to them.
“Before Magu goes after them, they decided to cut him to size. These governors found willing partners in some National Assembly leaders who were implicated in the loan refund.”

One of the emissaries sent by the governors to Magu was quoted as saying:
“This chap almost secured confirmation but he bungled it by probing the loan refund.
“Each time a commitment was secured from him, the more he has been intensifying investigation of the N19billion. We told him it was a sensitive case.”
“A businessman reportedly interceded for Magu, urging the Senate leadership to confirm him. But the businessman later discovered that EFCC was investigating him in connection with the loan refund, The Nation learnt.
“So, the governors refused to spare any efforts to lobby their senators to reject Magu. And don’t forget that most of these governors are godfathers of many senators. Again, 2019 is around the corner, no senator wants to take a bet on Magu and lose the opportunity of returning to the Red Chamber in the next general election,” the source said.

Most of the senators were displeased that the EFCC was either investigating or putting more than 10 of their colleagues on trial.

A highly-placed source said:
“The Senate has had its grudges against Magu since the invitation of the wife of the President of the Senate for interrogation. The senators saw it as a desecration of the chamber.
“Despite the fact that the President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, has purportedly forgiven Saraki, the questioning of his wife has been a lingering memory. There are always fears that Magu could be more drastic in his action if confirmed.
”And the fears came to fore during the lobbying for confirmation when the Acting EFCC chairman refused to yield ground.  Magu and a few others met with some of the Senators, led by a former governor from the Northeast, who demanded to know what EFCC will do on their cases.”

Magu was said to have told the lawmakers that the law will take its course.

He was quoted as saying:
“I cannot find solutions to these cases.”

Since that day, the hurdles against his confirmation became higher.

“The list of those who met Magu where the request was tabled is an open secret,” the source said.
The PDP senators did not mince words that the Acting EFCC chairman will not be confirmed because of alleged tilting of investigation towards opposition leaders. The ongoing subtle probe of the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio and his wife by the EFCC was considered as an affront after Magu had lobbied the PDP Caucus.
“Although two of the PDP senators met with Magu on Tuesday to assure him of likely clearance but the game plan changed overnight when the caucus took a position against Magu.”
Another source fingered some high profile suspects of the EFCC, including some bank chiefs, as those behind Magu’s travails.
The source added: “The Acting EFCC chairman stepped on toes of these high-profile suspects, who in cahoots with their associates and sympathisers, lobbied senators to halt what one of them described as ‘Magu’s hurricane’. These suspects have the wherewithal to fight Magu to a standstill.
“The problem with Magu is that he has no godfather to fight his cause. And Senate politics is about influence wielding, building contacts and high-wire relationship.
“There were rumours that some suspects budgeted about N2.2billion to stop Magu’s confirmation. The EFCC stumbled on this information but it was yet to trace any transaction linked to the slush budget. The agency was suspecting under-the-table vote.”
A source in government said:
“Magu has limited contacts in government. His sympathisers are President Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the President’s wife, Hajiya Aisha Buhari,  the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, the National Security Adviser (NSA), Gen. Babagana Monguno and the Chairman of PACAC, Prof. Itse Sagay, among others.
“Unfortunately, the NSA who recommended him for the job is facing challenges with some members of the kitchen cabinet who see Magu as doing the bidding of his benefactor.
Asked of the role of the Department of State Services (DSS), the source said:
“I think the service was uncomfortable with lack of inter-agency cooperation between it and the EFCC.
“There was a time the DSS advised Magu to stay action on an operation in the Southsouth, but the EFCC went ahead. It led to mutual suspicion.
“The closeness of Magu to the NSA, who had issues with DSS,  aggravated the proxy war, which resulted in two damning reports against Magu. The Acting EFCC chairman is a victim of power play  in the kitchen cabinet.”
