The Ice bucket challenge is an activity involving

dumping a bucket of ice water on one’s head or donating to the ALS Association in the United States. It went viral throughout social media during the Northern Hemisphere summer of 2014.

The action is aimed at raising money for research into ALS (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, a form of motor neurone disease) and in the UK to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Macmillan Cancer Support.

But braving freezing water is not enough, a small donation is also expected and so far #icebucketchallenge has raised more than $22.9 million for charity.

After an icy soaking the participant then nominates two or three further people to undertake the challenge within 24 hours. Those who forfeit the challenge must donate a larger sum of money to a good cause.

Don Jazzy on the Ice Bucket Challenge

Don Jazzy
The ice bucket challenge is the latest internet craze to sweep the globe, with everyone from Mark Zuckerberg to Oprah Winfrey, Cristiano Ronaldo to Robbie Keane. It’s a far better craze than that #NekNomination nonsense – nobody gets hurt and it’s for a worthy cause!

The #IceBucketChallenge co-founder Pete Frates suffers from the motor neuron disease, ALS and the reason behind the challenge is to raise money and awareness for ALS research. The ALS Association has received $13.3 million in donations from July 29 to August 17 — that’s nearly 50 times the donations usually received at this “slow” time of year.

The idea behind the social media campaign is that you either donate money to an ALS charity, or dump a bucket of ice over yourself. After you’ve made your choice, you can nominate up to 3 friends to do the same within the same 24-hour period.

Here are some of the best ones so far! Even Don Jazzy did it
