EU rejects Death Sentences on Court Martial Soldiers

EU,The European Union recently rejected the death sentence handedrved to 12 Nigerian soldiers by the General Court Martial in the Nigerian Army for alleged mutiny.

This was made known by a statement delivered by its memebers on the World Day against Dealth Penalty. This was no difference for the Mass Trial on the 12 Soldiers in Nigeria, as they strongly conderm the judgement by the Nigerian Miliatary.

Mr. Thorbjørn Jagland, who is the head of the union and the General Secretary argued that execution had stopped in that region of the world for close to two decades

According to his statement: “On the European and World Day against the Death Penalty, the European Union and the Council of Europe reaffirm their strong and absolute opposition to capital punishment in all cases and under all circumstances, and their commitment to its worldwide abolition.
“We are deeply concerned about setbacks in some countries, such as recent mass trials leading to a vast number of death sentences. No execution has taken place in our member states in the last 17 years.
The European Union and the Council of Europe welcome the fact that all Member States of the European Union have now ratified both Protocols 6 and 13 to the European Convention on Human Rights, and urge all other European States that have not yet done so to sign and ratify these instruments which aim at the abolition of the death penalty.”

The Nigerian Military has strongly reaffirmed their decision on the Death Penalty handed the 12 Soldiers as they says there is no turning back on the penalty handed those soldiers, irrespective of the plea and other legal means used to stop the execution of their members

Nigerian Defence HQ releases statement on purported video of Shekau, says its fake

The Nigeria military has reacted to the purported Boko Haram video released earlier today where Shekau or his fake said he was still alive.
The military insists that he was killed last month and that the video is fake. Read the statement posted on the Defense HQ website below...
The Defence Headquarters is studying the claims made in the video purportedly released by the terrorists showing their leader Abubakar Shekau as dismissing his death. From immediate observation and what some online news outlets claimed to have seen, the video did not indicate when it was shot neither did it show any proof of life or currency such as screen time or date.
The video also did not make any reference to anything that has happened since the impostor’s reported death. It is also noteworthy that the air plane said to be mentioned in the video had been missing before he was killed.
It should not surprise anybody if the terrorists decide to manipulate pictures, clone another Shekau or upload a pre-recorded video all in a bid to prove invincible. As far as we are concerned, the individual who was appearing in video and claiming to be the leader of the terrorist group was killed in the Kondunga battle in September.
The resemblance of the corpse and that of the eccentric character was incontrovertible. His identity was equally corroborated by people who knew him before we announced his death. So, while waiting to see the new video before any further statement, our message to them is that justice will be served to whoever bears that name or designation and whoever engages in act.

Unbelievabe as Tiwa Savage's husband Beats Her; Marriage is in Serious Trouble

What on earth would make a man beat his 5 months old bride, if its not something that hurts his heart. News reaching our blog claims that Tiwa Savage's Husband layed his hands on her. This could lead to a whole lot as some say its a issue of money. See the details...

Story according to Kemi Filani:
Heard this last night but didn't put it up till I was able to do some little confirmations here and there...
Tiwa Savage and Tunji Balogun's marriage is heading for the rocks, she might change her mind later but right now they are undergoing some serious marital crisis.

Their marriage is barely five months (they got married in Dubai in May) but Tiwa can't hold it anymore... she's tired of putting up with Tunji..... he beats her, etc... So many incredible stories I can't even put here but she's finally ready to call it quit and it all revolves around her money.

Three different sources in their inner circle confirmed this.
"Kemi, it's nothing new abeg. We were shocked when she accepted to marry him, he's been beating her even before he asked her to marry him but love is stupid sometimes.
When she agreed to marry him fine, we said 'okay, do a private and not a big wedding in case things fall apart but they said no... It's money sharing formula that is worrying them," one of the sources in the circle confidently told me.

Today is Tunji's birthday and although congratulatory messages have started pouring in, Tiwa is saying nothing and that's kinda unusual of her. Also, she has sacked him and gotten herself a new manager too... someone else now answers as her manager...

Here's what Tunji posted on social media to mark his birthday, no mention of his wife, Tiwa Savage:

Fans of WizKid Not Impressed With Ayo Album, Want A Refund their money

Fans get disappointed in a low performance of artist especially in their album release. This was not different as fans of Wizkid are not happy with his latest album, AYO. The album is not gathering much acceptance unlike the previous one and fans are torn apart in their views about it.

Wizzy drop ‘Ayo’(Joy) on iTunes on September 17, 2014 ahead of plan and this caused a rush as fans hurried to have a feel of his new release.

But the album didn’t turn out to be what they totally expected! Although the album made it to the top of iTunes album chart within hours of its release however, criticisms later flooded its wide acceptance. While some complained about the album being “stale”, others just clamoured for a “refund” of their money as it didn’t meet their taste. Let’s not forget, this is his last with EME, and fans expected it would be a resounding farewell album. But what about those songs he recorded with Rihanna and Chris Brown? Well, according to him, those songs will be among his next album released under his own record label, StarBoy in December. The new album Ayo has 19 tracks containing old tracks like ‘Jaiye jaiye’, ‘On top your matter’, ‘Show you the money’, ‘One question’ which didn’t go down well with fans who have waited for good three years for a new album.

Nigerian Army and Camerounian Army Controversy over who killed Shekau

There was a terrible dispute over the force that took down the Boko Haram Militant Leader, Abubakar Shekau as the Nigeria and Cameroon were, yesterday, locked in an argument where he was killed.

In a rare public show by the Cameroonian army (Armee Camerounaise), photos of Shekau were made public alongside a statement claiming he was killed during a cross-border raid deep inside Nigeria by its military.

A Cameroon military source, according to Cameroon Concord, said on Sunday night that Shekau was killed following an aerial bombardment of his hideout inside Nigeria.

On the other hand, the Nigerian Army is also laying claim to the same feat but without photographic evidence yet. The Nigerian Army said its soldiers might have killed Shekau in Konduga, a town some kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
According to a report posted on its twitter handle, DHQ said yesterday that, “there was no raid whatsoever in any part of Nigeria’s territory in pursuit of terrorists as claimed in some reports allegedly quoting Cameroon military authorities.
“All operations on-going in the environs of Konduga and all associated border locations within the country are completely being undertaken by Nigerian troops.”
Reportedly, the Cameroon armed forces since Sunday have been in serious combat against thousands of Boko Haram fighters trying to enter Cameroon via Fotokol from Gamboru Ngala in Nigeria.
This came amid confusion over Shekau’s identity as military experts are trying to ascertain whether the dead ‘Shekau’ was Isa Damsaka or Bashir Mohammed, who are both top commanders believed to be posing as Shekau.
Meanwhile, efforts to exchange some of the abducted Chibok school girls with Boko Haram prisoners have flopped again.
The Nigerian military claimed that its troops might have killed Shekau on September 17 during a desperate attempt by the sect to capture Konduga as part of their plot to eventually march on and capture Maiduguri.
“It is getting more certain that the terrorist commander who has been mimicking Shekau in those videos is the one killed in Konduga on September 17, 2014, the military revealed.
The military, however, cautioned that “the process of confirming the dead body we have is the same as that character who has been posing as Shekau is ongoing. He is definitely a prominent terrorist commander. I don’t want to say anything about this yet, please.”
The military source insisted that the resemblance between Shekau and the corpse in their custody is too striking to be a coincidence. They cited his facial marks, beard and teeth in addition to the recovery by  Nigerian troops of some of the armoured vehicles and Hilux SUVs that had featured in previous videos of the prime suspect. The source assured that the Defence Headquarters will soon address the nation after full investigation of their latest discovery.
The counter-claims by both countries have raised some posers: Who actually killed Shekau and where was he killed and how authentic are the claims?
Confusion over Shekau’s identity
Indeed, confusion reigns supreme over Shekau’s identity. Strident efforts by the Nigerian military high command to establish the true identity of the top Boko Haram leader who was shot dead last week, continued in earnest yesterday, even as the video of the slain man was obtained exclusively by us.
The military, it was learnt, had been cautious in making a formal announcement that Shekau had been killed as a similar declaration last year, was instantly countered by the sect, following the emergence of another ‘Shekau’ in several video posts on the Internet.
We gathered from top security sources that although a bearded man, who resembled Shekau in several material details, was shot dead in Konduga last week, the military was not sure whether the slain man was Isa Damsaka or Bashir Mohammed, who the security agencies claim had been mimicking the real Abubakar Shekau, said to have been killed since June 2013.
The apparent fear over the death of Shekau, in the battle for Konduga, it was also learnt, has caused some disquiet in the Boko Haram camp, especially as the video of the dead commander surfaced on the internet yesterday.
In the six-second video, the critically wounded ‘Shekau’ was seen lying on the ground writhing in pains as men in military uniform and civilians surround him with some voices saying, “Waste that man! Waste that man!”
However, the Australian negotiator, Dr. Stephen Davis, who claims to have worked closely with Abubakar Shekau, said yesterday that he was convinced that the real Shekau was killed since June 2013 by the Nigerian security agencies.

Shekau killed June 2013 — Davis

Davis, in a mail to us, said that Abubakar Shekau was killed around June 19, 2013 while they were close to concluding a peace deal on the Boko Haram insurgency.
Davis said:  “I continue to hold to the position that Shekau was killed on or about June 19, 2013 when we were close to concluding a peace deal. Videos immediately prior to that time were produced using a “fake” Shekau. The fake Skekau is Isa Damsaka. It was confirmed to me by Boko Haram that he was killed in the recent military engagement at Konduga.
“Most members of Boko Haram have never seen Shekau. They believe what they have been told that Shekau is their leader. The real Shekau is dead. The Shekau the world has been seeing in videos is a “fake” and Boko Haram fighters have been fooled. They have followed blindly.
“The message of Boko Haram purifying Islam is also fake. When the Boko Haram leaders broke the news of Shekau’s death in June last year, they said he had diverted from the Holy Qu’ran through the kidnappings, rapes and beheadings. The fake Shekau continued these atrocities under the patronage of the sponsors and escalated their terrorist activities. Shekau is dead but they will try to find another to perpetuate the lie.
“This is the time for Boko Haram commanders to come forward and release the captive girls. There are Chibok girls and many other girls who have been kidnapped. Let commanders come forward and release a large number of girls as a first step towards a peace dialogue.
“I have no doubt the sponsors will try to prevent any commander releasing the girls as part of a peace deal. The pressure must therefore be put on the sponsors so the commanders can come forward.
“Shekau was killed on or about June 19, 2013 as we were concluding a peace deal. I have spoken at length to several senior people who were present. The Shekau impersonator recently killed was Isa Damsaka. Boko Haram leaders have been using him for quite some time to make their propaganda videos. The script is written for him by another commander which he then reads as he delivers his message on-camera.”
How  Shekau was killed
Details of how Abubakar Shekau, the impostor and leader of the Boko Haram terrorist group was killed in a shoot-out with Nigerian troops in Konduga on Wednesday, September 17 emerged, yesterday, with military sources disclosing that he met his waterloo in an ambush reminiscent of the type the sect had been using to hack down Nigerian troops.

We gathered that during the first attack on Konduga, where hundreds of insurgents were taken unawares and killed after over seven hours of fighting with several of their colleagues, arms and ammunition captured, the military commanders strategically urged his captured members to send a message to Shekau that they (insurgents) have killed the troops.
Before the captured insurgents were urged to make the contact and deliver the message, the military commanders had promised them that their co-operation would play a role in the level of punishment to be meted to them after the battle, hence they felt reassured.
Also, the captured insurgents had disclosed that Shekau usually moved in a convoy of cars painted in military colours while he sits in a MOWAG Armoured tank with Boko Haram inscription on its front.
When Shekau was contacted, his captured men spoke to him in Arabic, assuring him that they had taken over Konduga, thereby giving him the positive signal to proceed from Sambisa Forest. To convince him further, some of his men that were captured were asked to sing the victory song in Kanuri language they normally sing at the background.
Having convinced himself that the messenger was his chief courier in such situation and the message was authentic, he and his followers made for Konduga, heavily armed with anti-aircraft weapons, general purpose machine guns, several AK-47 rifles and other IEDS’.
However, on entering Konduga town, he and his followers were encircled by strategically placed and heavily armed Nigerian soldiers. Immediately he contacted the messenger and discovered that something was amiss, he ordered his followers to start shooting in all directions.
This spurred the Army Commanders to give the directive to open fire. When he discovered that the fire power of the Nigerian Army who used both infantry and artillery weaponry was overwhelming, he jumped out of the MOWAG and made to escape.
But Nigerian soldiers spotted him and opened fire on him, inflicting serious injuries on  his legs. It was learnt that he also received bullet wounds in other parts of his body as he was said to have bled to death.
Military sources had on Sunday night disclosed that Nigerian troops scored a strategic victory in the current battle against terrorists operating in the North-East on September 17.
Swap of Chibok girls with Boko Haram prisoners flops again
Meanwhile, it has also emerged that efforts of the security agencies to free the 219 Chibok girls from their Boko Haram captors has failed again.
We learnt from top security agents that the deal to free the girls, who have spent 162 days with their abductors, had broken down almost irretrievably as a result of the inexplicable decision by the Boko Haram side to ask for impossible conditions.
One of the conditions put down by Boko Haram at the last minute was that the Federal Government must account for and produce 18 of its top commanders said to have been captured and detained in several detention facilities across the country.
Although the government was willing to free some of the Boko Haram detainees in exchange for the girls, a top government source, who was privy to the discussions, said that many of the Boko Haram commanders could not be traced.
The top government official said: “Boko Haram commanders suddenly demanded an equal man-to-man exchange instead of the agreed total girls for 16 Boko Haram prisoners. Also, of the 16 prisoners, not all of them could be traced by the government side.
“The exchange of the Chibok girls with the Boko Haram prisoners was to take place at an agreed location in Yola, the Adamawa State capital. But the true position of things as of today is that the talks have broken down.”
Answering a question, the government official said that Nigeria opted to bring in the International Committee of the Red Cross as a facilitator because of its neutrality and competence in facilitating such exchange of prisoners in many parts of the world.

President Jonathan at Synagogue, vows to investigate cause of collapsed building

Goodluck Jonathan yesterday vowed  to investigate the cause of the collapse of the Synagogue Church of All Nations’ six-storey building.

The President, who spoke during a condolence visit to the General Overseer of the church, Pastor T.B. Joshua, also promised to collaborate with state governors to put in place measures  to check  illegal building of high rise buildings in the country.

While expressing condolences to the families of the victims, he assured that the Federal Government will deploy the machinery to ensure that investigations into the cause of the collapse were treated speedily.

Jonathan said he will convene a  meeting with state governors to discuss the need for advice or measures that will  check  illegal erection of high rise buildings.

The President was accompanied by the National Chairman of the PDP, Adamu Muazu, and the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, to the site of the collapsed structure.

Meanwhile, the South African ambassador to Nigeria has dismissed the fear of  diplomatic row between Nigeria and South Africa as a result of the incident.

He also revealed that 84 South Africans had been confirmed dead in the incident. This figure however conflicts with the figures released by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

The South-west spokesman of the NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, told reporters in Lagos that the death toll stood  at 78.

Toll rises in Lagos over Synagogue building collapse

Synagogue Building
Eight bodies were pulled from the rubble of the two-storey guesthouse at the Synagogue Church of All Nations in Lagos early on Tuesday.

One woman was pulled out alive, and walked away with only a broken wrist.

The hostel housed followers of the popular Nigerian preacher and TV evangelist TB Joshua.

Workers slowed down digging in the wreckage of the guesthouse after the woman was rescued.

"It's going to be slower because we believe we can recover more people alive," Ibrahim Farinloye, regional coordinator for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), told journalists.

Rescuers are now concentrating efforts on the area around the hostel's restaurant, where previous survivors were found, Mr Farinloye added

Mr Joshua, one of Nigeria's best known televangelists, had said a small plane had been circling over the building before it collapsed on Friday afternoon, and suggested it was an attempt on his life.

"They came to call me that there was an airplane hovering over the church. They said it is like it wanted to land," his statement said.

About 30 minutes later it flew over the building several times, he said.

"About five minutes after, the building came down," he said.

He had given journalists a CCTV video clip of the alleged low-flying plane, urging them "to use their discretion to write on what they saw".

On Tuesday, however, a rescue official said the likeliest cause of the building's collapse was the construction of additional storeys without reinforcing the foundations.

At least 130 people, including many foreigners, were pulled out of the rubble.

Mr Joshua, who is also known as the Prophet, regularly preaches to large crowds at a mega-church in Lagos's Ikotun district.

His followers in Nigeria and abroad believe he has the gifts of healing and prophecy.
