Banky W, Former US Presidents To Speak At Oxford University, UK

  R&B singer and EME boss, Bankole Wellington popularly known as Banky W has been selected as one of the distinguished speakers at this year’s edition of the Oxford University Pan Africa.

He will represent Nigeria once again at the annual Pan African Conference which will hold on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at the Oxford Union in Oxford, London.

Others included to speak at the conference are former US Presidents, Reagan, Nixon and Carter, Malcolm X, Mother Theresa, The Dalai Lama, David Cameron, Senator John McCain among others.

The Oxford University Pan African Conference since its inception has been the foremost gathering of African students in the United Kingdom. In partnership with the Oxford Union, The conference brings together hundreds of dynamic scholars, entrepreneurs, activists, and political leaders from around the world.

Mr Wellington will be speaking on the importance of current cultural shifts and changes in artistic expression. He will also discuss the rise of a vibrant media industry and how these changes are shaping the continent’s self-perception and its image abroad.

Commenting on the selection of Banky W as one of the speakers for this year, Oxford Union conference Chairman, Temitope Folaranmi said, “Banky W is one of the leading African musician/producers with a strong international presence. In the view of his extraordinary effort in developing young African music talents, Banky W’s participation in this year’s Conference will be an invaluable contribution.”

Wizkid Confirms Return To EME, As He Performs With Banky W On Stage

Recent activities has shown that 'starboy; Wizkid is back to his former record label, EME – After a lot shots taken and shared between Banky W and Wizkid, it seems all have now been resolved as Wizkid confirms in his performance at an event in Lagos, calling Banky W to stage and setting some facts straight before calling him on stage.

Before this time, Banky W, Skales and anyone in the EME camp weren’t allowed to perform on stage with Wizkid… He (Wizkid) recently went to social media to announce that he was releasing an album which we thought was just business and when NaijaMp3s.com asked him if he was back on the EME team, he laughed it off

 A source close to Wizzy told us that the album that will be released soon under EME was recorded last year before the “Misunderstanding” like Banky W and Shaydee calls it. "It's all bad belle people, they think there may be bad news and when you don't give them that news they start to create it because bad news sells more than good news.

First of all (go down low...lol), there was no twitter fight, people go online and use photoshop to create my profile and then they go and create Wizkid's profile and say he said this and that - even when it never happened. What happened is that we have been working on Wizzy's project to make it work internationally and when you are getting to that level, things change.

He has his own idea of what he wants to do and we are in 100% support of that and these were the things we dreamed of back in 2009 when I signed him....Wizkid is still signed to the E.M.E!!!

On Wizkid's starboy entertainment, he said "well you know that is something else he wants to do, he wants to start his record label just like I started mine then and see where I am today. You have a lot of people fabricating stuff and trying to make it feel like there is a battle and you know we don't believe in that...we are all mature and grown up people...he is absolutely and still part of the family..."

When asked "how does it work for him to have star boy entertainment and still be part of E.M.E"

Banky W Signs N100M Deal To Become Samsung Ambassador For Another Year

Wizkid or no Wizkid, Banky W is still making that mula. Yesterday Banky W signed a deal reportedly worth N100m with leading digital media and convergence technology company, Samsung Electronics West Africa. Banky W who was already an ambassador of Samsung will be joined by Samsung's new ambassador Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw.


"The Samsung brand stands for qualities of innovation, change, discovery, self-expression and excellence in performance and these very same qualities are epitomized by Banky W. We are indeed very proud and privileged to have him as our Brand Ambassador." Managing Director, Samsung Electronics West Africa, Mr. Brovo Kim says.

Will Wizkid Feature On Banky’s R&BW Album?

Banky W‘s new album ‘R&BW‘ will be released on February 14, 2013. A tentative tracklist which showcases 15 songs has leaked and so far does not feature Wizkid. Banky W unvelied the artwork on his Instagram page on February 7, and also 12 tracks off the album.

The tracklist however features usual suspects – the EME crew which includes Skales, Niyola, and Shaydee. Others are upcoming singer Sammy, US based singer Rotimi, rappers M.I, eLDee, Vector, Lynxxx, Ghanaian rapper Sarkodie, SA’s L-Tido and Kenya pop group Camp Mulla.


Going by the recent rumoured fall out between EME and Wizzy, fans are wondering if the young pop star will make the final cut. Others are also worried if Wizkid will attend the February 15 concert ‘The Grand Love’ project.

Wizkid is still signed to EME; We are “Negotiating” – Banky W

EME boss, Banky W in an interview with Silverbird Entertainment denied report that Wizkid has left the record label. Banky W said the record label is currently re-reviewing the contract Wizkid signed with EME and they are in the “middle” of the negotiation.

“Wizkid is going international and as a result we have to re-negotiate the contract he signed. Wizkid has his own idea of how he wants to do things and he has plans for himself too. Wizkid is still with us, there’s no problem, things will be sorted out soon” Banky W told Silverbird.

Banky W insist things will be ironed out in the next few weeks.

The split between Banky W and Wizkid, inside sources say, resulted from an alleged high difference in what Banky W gets from revenues made by the young star, Wizkid.

The 'injustice', according to what we gathered, has been bothering Wizkid until he summoned the courage to ask for an improved contract from Banky W, which hit him (Banky) by surprise.

"You know Wizkid is the backbone of EME music label. The boy (Wizkid) feels that Banky W has been milking too much from him with the large chunk of what Banky W takes from what the boy makes.

"Wizkid has asked for an improved contract because the present one allocates much of Wizkid’s earnings to Banky W. You know when you are coming up, you sign any kind of deal because you just want to climb stardom.

"That is the situation the boy finds himself but Banky felt hurt that Wizkid could ask for an improved offer after what he (Banky W) has done for him.

"This was the beginning of the problem between them. The boy even threatened to leave the label sometimes ago but Banky W felt it was a joke. He took it with a pinch of salt. Now, he is at a crossroad and confused on what to do," a source told Aproko 247.

Wizkid's mum waded into the matter but Wizkid reportedly ignored his mum advice and stood his ground on leaving the label. "Wizkid’s mum has also tried to talk sense to her son but it seems the guy (Wizkid) is bent on moving on with his life."

In an upcoming interview with NET, Banky W told us he’d be spending the most of January 2013 on holiday with his family in Washington D.C, U.S after a working his butt off with his EME last year.

The R&B singer recently posted a photo of his mother who he fondly calls Momma W, younger brotherFunmi and himself in the U.S Capital.

Here’s a brief background of Banky W for those who don’t know…

Bankole Wellington is American born-Nigerian R&B artiste. His father is from Badagry while his mother is from Calabar in Cross River State.

When he was five, he moved back to Nigeria and lived here for 12 years, attending Corona Primary School, Home Science Association Secondary School and Ajao Secondary School all in Lagos.

He then went back to the US for college and studied Industrial Engineering from RPI in New York where he began singing and recording songs and releasing an EP – Undeniable and a debut album ‘Back in the Building‘.

One of the latest news making rounds about Banky W and fast rising music star WizKid indicates that the two entertainers might part ways soon except something is done to avert it,Global News magazine a Nigerian tabloid reported this week.

The reason is clearly as a result of some financial dealings that his not going down well with both parties. EME Boss, Banky W Gets First Lady; Singer, Niyola

Head of Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) music label, Bankole Wellington but well known as Banky W has signed a first female artiste onto his label, EME.

 The deal was concluded last week after several contract talks between Banky W and Niyola's representatives. Niyola now joins Wizkid, Skales and the boss; Banky W also known as Mr Capable on EME records label. 

Niyola, a pop, R&B and soul singer, is reportedly excited about it. This deal makes her officially the first lady of EME. An EME artistes' compilation album titled “The Empire Mates State Of Mind” would be released later this week.

Wizkid, Banky W Feature In New Movie

Label boss of Empire Mates Entertainment, Banky Wellington, who is well know as Banky W and protege, Wizkid have featured in a new movie.

According to information gathered by Newsmen, the two talented music stars had cameo appearances in the new film.

The film, Shuga: Love, Sex and Money is an MTV drama series. It is expected to have its red carpet premiere in Nairobi later next month.

The MTV drama series was created in order to spread the message of responsible sexual behaviour and tolerance.

It was produced by MTV Networks Africa in association with The MTV Staying Alive Foundation, PEPFAR and the Partnership for an HIV-Free Generation (HFG).
