Man stabs his twin brother to death while sleeping

A 27-year-old man, Mfom John, has stabbed his twin brother, Israel John, to death on Olorunkemi Street in the Somolu area of Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Mfom stabbed the victim more than 70 times in different parts of the body on Monday.

Although no one could state the immediate cause of the incident, relatives and residents told our correspondent that the suspect had always threatened to kill Israel whenever they had disagreements.
He was said to have carried out the threat around 6am while the victim slept and a third occupant of the room, Christopher, was in the kitchen.

The Akwa Ibom State, indigene reportedly stabbed his brother in the neck, head, armpit and stomach till he died.
He was said to have fled to Ogunbadejo, a neighbouring street, to report to an uncle that his brother had sustained serious injuries during a fight.
Our correspondent gathered that he followed the uncle and his wife to the house around 7am, as a team of policemen from the Pedro division, were removing the corpse.
Christopher, who was being interrogated at that moment, reportedly pointed out the culprit to the police, leading to his arrest.
A neighbour, Bidemi, told PUNCH Metro that the two brothers had danced together on Sunday night after they bought a generator.
He said, “The room where they stayed was formerly occupied by their elder brother, and he passed it on to his sister. The sister, after living there for some years, passed it to them.
“The two brothers were working in a restaurant owned by their brother in the Abiodun area. While Mfom cooked the food, Israel washed the plates.
“On Sunday when they returned from work, they had a party to celebrate a new generator they bought. Around 6am on Monday, while Israel was sleeping, Mfom got a knife and stabbed him all over the body. At a particular spot, he stabbed him more than 15 times. There were more than 70 stab wounds on him.”
A relative, who did not identify herself, said after killing his brother, the suspect went to his uncle’s house, where she also stays, to report the incident.
She explained that Mfom was panicky, as he tried not to indict himself, adding that she thought it was their usual fight.
“We asked him what happened, he just said there was a fight in the house and his brother had been injured. As we approached the house, we saw two police vans. The policemen brought out a body that was covered with wrapper.
“That was when Christopher told the police that it was Mfom who killed his brother. The police then arrested him,” she said.
Christopher reportedly claimed he was roasting groundnut in the kitchen when Mfom killed his brother.
He said he never knew what happened until he went into the room and saw Israel in a pool of blood.
But residents said Christopher might know more about the death because the suspect had told him he would ensure his brother did not go to work that morning.
A co-worker, who did not identify himself, said the two brothers had different personalities.
While he described Mfom as overbearing, he said Israel was quiet and always at the receiving end of his brother’s cruelty.
The elder brother of the men, however, said the duo had been a thorn in his flesh.
He said he brought them from the village to Lagos so his mother could have peace of mind.
He said, “I planned to set up businesses for them. But since I brought them from the village, it has been from one trouble to another. I have never had rest.  I never knew this would happen. I don’t know how I will inform my mother in the village now.”
PUNCH Metro learnt that the corpse of the victim had been deposited at the Mainland General Hospital morgue, while the suspect had been transferred to the State Department of Criminal Investigation, Yaba.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the incident.
