Man who weighs 800 pounds kicked out of hospital for ordering a pizza

Steven Assanti has been left living out of the trunk of his father's 4x4 SUV after he was booted out of the clinic where he spent 80 days trying shed 39 stone after he ordered a pizza.

The 33-year-old was getting the help he desperately needed to fight his "eating addiction" at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, US.

Assanti, from Cranston, had already managed to lose a stone over the last few months. But when he momentarily broke the rules of his plan by ordering a takeaway pizza he was told he had to leave.

Assanti said he was supposed to stay at the hospital until his weight dropped to 40 stone, enabling him to have gastric bypass surgery. The 60 stone man was trying to get gastric bypass surgery. "It's an addiction and I realise that. And it's a disease" he said.

His father Steven Veilette said he cannot take his son home because he won't be able to get up the stairs. "I just don't know who to turn to" Mr Veilette said. "I called everybody, everybody you can think of in the state of Rhode Island and nobody seems to be able to help me." He said he does not know what to do.
