Muslim Cleric Tells President-elect,Buhari What He Should Not Do To Nigerians
The Chief Imam of the National Mosque, Abuja, Sheikh Kabiru Mohammed, has told the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, and other elected office holders not to betray the trust of the Nigerian people.
In his sermon at the special Juma’at prayer, marking the official commencement of the inauguration of the new government, Sheikh Mohammed told the elected leaders to always remember that they have a contract with the Nigerian people which they must strive to execute.
The President-elect was represented on the occasion by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.
Delivering his sermon, Sheikh Mohammed advised the political leadership of the nation to take the issue of trust seriously as the creator would call everyone to task “based on what we do with responsibilities entrusted to us.”
He said:
“Keeping trust is a noble trait, a praiseworthy conduct. The attribute of keeping trust is the cornerstone of societal, political, religious and psychological well-being. Whoever tells you something in confidence has demanded your trust. The money in man’s possession is a trust. The citizens are a trust, as well as human interactions as a whole”
He said workers and public servants also had the responsibility of preserving governmental affairs as a trust by discharging their tasks diligently.
While quoting from the Hadith, he said:
“Verily, Allah shall question everyone tasked with a responsibility whether or not he kept it or betrayed it, to such extent that Allah shall question the man concerning the way he treated his household”
He further said:
“The prayer was conducted for the 2015 presidential inauguration. We pray to Allah to protect this country, shower his blessings on this country and also pray to Almighty Allah to guide our leaders, let them lead with justice and let them do all they could do to make sure that common man of this country lives a good life.
“The central massage of today is on trust. When Almighty Allah gives someone a position, that position is a trust. So the massage today is that everybody should fear Allah in managing the affairs of the trust that was giving to them.”
