Jonathan Leads In Nasarawa

Results so far released in the presidential polls in Nasarawa State indicates that President Goodluck Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken lead ahead of his closest rival and candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Gen. Mohammadu Buhari.

Results from four local government areas show announced at the time of filing this report showed that the PDP polled a total of a 74, 366 votes as against the APC which polled a total of 47, 461 votes.

Breakdown of the results announced at the National Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) headquarters Lafia, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) Alhaji Abdulahi Umar Danyaya, said in Obi local government area PDP polled 22, 693 as against APC which polled 12, 543. In Keana PDP got 8, 813 to APCs 7, 515.

The same was for Kokona where the PDP got 23, 682, while the APC polled 14, 500. In Doma PDP got 19, 178 to APCs 12,903.

In other elections the PDP candidate of the Nasarawa North senatorial district, Hon. Philip Gyunka, defeated his closest opponent of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) Hon. Sam Allu with only 451 votes in a keenly contested election.

Hon. Gyunka (PDP) polled 32, 761 while Allu got 32, 310 to place second. The candidate of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Idris Yahuza came a distant third.

Ongoing collation at the Abacha Youth Center showed that the candidates of the PDP in Nasarawa South senatorial district, Lafia/Obi and Awe/Doma/Keana federal constituencies, Sen. Suleiman Adokwe, Dr. Joseph Kigbu and Hon. Ogoshi Onawo were all in comfortable lead as at press time.

In the western senatorial zone the candidate of the PDP, Hon. Aliyu Ahmed Wadada, was was being trailed by his closest rival, Sen Abdullahi Adamu by a little over a thousand votes. Results from Nasarawa and Karu local government areas were marred by irregularities prompting the returning officer, Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed, to proceed to Lafia for rectification by the Resident Electoral Commissioner.
