PHOTOS: ABANDONED NEWBORN BABY SURVIVES AFTER 5 DAYS IN STORM PIPE
A 7-day-old Australian baby was found alive after having spent 5 days in drain.
According to Mirror, the newborn child was dumped at the bottom of an almost 3m pipe covered with 200kg concrete slab.
The baby, still covered in a hospital blanket, was lifted by a group of 6 men, including 3 policemen.
One David Otte was around with his teenage daughter when they heard a sound resembling the meowing of a kitten.
“We actually thought it was a kitten at first, but when we went down there we could hear exactly what it was, you could definitely tell it was a baby screaming.”
According to the police, the baby was pushed through a small opening to the drain. After the rescue operation the abandoned child was rushed in a serious condition to the Westmead Children’s Hospital.
The local police disclosed that the baby miraculously survived the weather conditions due to the concrete layer which protected it.
“The temperature in Sydney fluctuated this week. It was 20+ degrees Celsius and then up to 40 today so it wasn’t 40 degrees Celsius every day this week. We haven’t seen anything like this before.”
David Otte spoke after the incident:
“We wanted to see him, but the hospital said we weren’t able to at the moment. We’d all really love a chance to see him again. Today has been such an emotional experience for everyone.”
Meanwhile the troubled mother was charged with murder and was refused a bail.
