Top Nigerian Entertainers Aiming For Political Post and Their Real Motives

This is a brief profile of all Nigeria celebrities who have expressed strong interest in contesting for one political office!

The Kennis Music artiste- where she is also the Vice President- declared her intentions to run for a political office at a public declaration event which held on Thursday, October 2 at the Forks and Fingers Restaurant in Opebi.

At the event, KSB professed her plans to run for a set at the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Ikeja Constituency 1, under the All Progressive Congress, APC. KSB said women and youth empowerment will be her priority, once is has been voted into the Lagos State House of Assembly.

“I want to do so much for my people; I really want to empower our youth and not just by organizing boring seminars, but by practical ways, our women also need help, women need to empowered and have support for their business and families,” she said.

The singer in August declared has declared his intentions to contest for the House of Representative seat of Ogbomosho North/South/Orire Federal Constituency of Oyo State.

Having revealed that he can’t be doing music at the age of 37, the Oyo State born singer said;

“I have passion for politics; I want to make changes in the society. I have noticed so many things wrong in my community and constituency so I would want to change them,”

Julius Agwu

The diminutive entertainer has since revealed that the calls from his people to run for the seat of Rivers State Governor prompted his decision to wade into politics.

“Becoming the governor of Rivers State was not something that came up overnight. It was not on my radar back then. The people of Rivers State in the Diaspora and those in the State have been clamouring for me to come out as an aspirant. They believe I have what it takes to go for it. It just dawned on me that I indeed have what it takes. I have given it a serious thought and have given in to their pressure,” he said.

Tony Tetuila

Tony shared a photo of his campaign poster on his Twitter page revealing that he is seeking a seat at the Kwara State House of Assembly.

Tony Tetuila will be running under the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

One of his campaign photos was a trending item on the Nigerian social media as many criticized the style of his hair.


Kenneth Okonkwo

According to the 46-year old actor, his chances are very bright because he is a child of God who has unflinching love for his people. He said he was pressured to vie for a political post from his people.

In his words, “I have a God that will supply all my needs according to His riches by Christ Jesus. I have my people that are sending me, who are supporting me both morally and financially. I have great friends and fans supporting me. My chances are very bright. I also have the love of a lot of prominent members of my party because of my modest achievements in Nollywood and some live television appearances where we discuss national issues.”

Kate Henshaw

The Onga seasoning Ambassador said she's taking a break from acting to join politics for eight years.

The actress cited lengthy stays in politics as reason for much of the problems in Nigeria, on top of corruption on the part of government officials. Though she also said she had no money to share, she states that she will not enter politics for the purpose of financial gain, instead she will "push" herself to better the country.


Desmond Elliot

Few days ago, over 1000 youths gathered at the Eagles square, Surulere to interact with actor, Desmond Elliot and to endorse his candidature for the APC constituency seat ticket at the Lagos State House of Assembly Representing Surulere constituency one.

“The current situation is very pathetic. I feel God has helped me thus far and I want to give back through politics that will be favourable to the youths. The worst part of our national life is that the level of corruption has not allowed youths to understand what it means to live a meaningful life. Just because of lack of knowledge of what to do, we are being sidetracked. There are no jobs, and issues like these lead to frustration. A whole lot needs to be done on agriculture, every state in Nigeria needs to see how it can contribute to nation building. There’s a lot that needs to be done,” he said.


Bob-Manuel Udokwu

Renowned Nollywood Actor and anchor of Gulder Ultimate Search reality show, Bob-Manuel Udokwu is venturing into full-time politics.

He maintained that his decision to contest was to help develop and transform the state in line with the vision of the present administration.
He also wants to help develop Idemili North and make it the constituency to beat in the state.
Bob-Manuel, a former SA to Governor Peter Obi, also called for prayers and support to enable him achieve his ambition to serve his people.


Jibola Dapo

Another celebrity bitten by the political bug is veteran actor, Jibola Dabor, as he is currently strategizing on how to clinch the ticket to represent his people of Owo Federal Constituency, Ondo State, at the House of Representatives.

“I can still do one or two movies because nothing in the constitution says I can’t do movies but I know there won’t be time to do much movies. I’m not quitting, I’m just taking a break to give back to the people because I’ve realized that the industry has taken me to a particular peak. Giving back is not going to be easy from that industry, but if I’m part of a voice, I can better develop the industry and give back to the community.

If elected, I will concentrate on rural development. I’m quite experienced in the cultural activities in my constituency and I know how we can use the basic things we have in the land to enrich the youths in particular,” he had assured.


Funke Adesiyan

Popular Yoruba actress, Funke Adesiyan is also exploring the political scene. Friends and fans of the actress flooded social media recently with posters of the actress.

Adesiyan is seeking an elective office in the Oyo State House of Assembly representing the Ibadan South-East constituency.

However, the actress is yet to unveil her political party but strongly believes she would be successful in her political ambition.

As an actress, Funke has featured in several blockbuster movies


Yemi Solade

Yoruba Actor, Yemi Solade would be contesting for a senatorial seat in Ondo State under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The 51-year old actor who is presently the interim chairman of the newly floated TAMPAN has his campaign posters flood his social media pages.

Yemi is a strict professional, a gifted actor and has featured in many block buster movies.

With the post, the comedian announced his intentions to run for a seat at the Rivers state House of Assembly for the Ikwerre Constituency in 2015.

As a comedian known to always make light note out of serious issues, fans thought he was joking and many made it known through the comment section of the Instagram post. He replied them later, insisting he was serious about it.

Details of his plans to run for a political office are still very sketchy. He is yet to reveal the political party he will be running from and also yet to kick off any campaign.
