Man pushes lover to death during quarrel

The deceased, identified simply as Kemi, 20, was said to have visited the suspect, one Muyiwa, an auto mechanic, at his workshop around Rufu area about noon.
Eye witnesses told us that barely had the lady settled down than an argument over money ensued. Kemi, as gathered, had demanded an unspecified amount from Muyiwa who kept assuring her he would give her.
An eye witness said: “On that fateful day, she told Muyiwa she would not leave his workshop if he did not give her the money. We all kept quiet at first, expecting them to settle their differences.
“But all of a sudden, a fight ensued. In the process, Muyiwa pushed Kemi and she hit her head on a brick. She became motionless. Everyone thought she was pretending.
“At that point, Muyiwa dragged her inside the workshop and told us she was alright. But to our surprise, we later heard she was dead.”
Vanguard gathered that when onlookers discovered that Kemi was dead, they alerted policemen from Shagamu road, who arrived and removed the corpse.
Suspect flees to church
But Muyiwa was nowhere to be found when the policemen arrived. He was said to have fled to a church and hid in an abandoned office in the church premises. When it was night, he reportedly joined other worshippers in a vigil.
Unknown to him, one of the worshippers living in the area where the tragic incident occurred sighted him and alerted the Police who subsequently apprehended him in the early hours of yesterday.
The suspect, according to Police sources at the State Criminal Investigation Department where he was transferred to, expressed regrets over the death of his girlfriend, saying he pushed her out of provocation.
“I was angry because she threatened to quit the relationship because I did not give her the money she requested,” the suspect told operatives.
Contacted, spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, Ngozi Braide, said she was yet to be briefed on the matter.
