Bomb scare As Lagos-Atlanta Flight Made Emergency Landing In Dakar, Senegal
Contrary to earlier reports that a Delta Airlines plane from Lagos to Atlanta was diverted to Senegal on Monday because of suspicion of a suspected bomber on board, the Airline has explained why they had to divert the flight.
Speaking on the issue early today, Delta Airlines' Director Corporate Communications, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Olivia Cullis, said that the Atlanta bound flight was diverted to Dakar, Senegal for precautionary reasons.
Mr. Culis added further that the reason they made the decision to divert the flight was mainly for precautionary reasons as against explosives being on board as was earlier speculated.
“After a short stop, the flight resumed to the United States. The safety and security of our passengers and crew is our number one priority.” he added.
There had been speculations that a passenger on the airliner had explosives on him, with the intention of blowing up the plane.
It was gathered that an unexpected electrical fault in the plane did not help matters as it further sparked more suspicion.
It could be recalled that a passenger, Editi EffiĆ²ng who was aboard the plane, had tweeted that the Atlanta-bound airliner had been diverted to Dakar, amid suspicion of a suspected bomber inside the plane.
Effiong had tweeted: “Don't know what that guy was trying to do, but the electronic systems on the plane shut down! Lights were flickering everywhere.
How do you smuggle a bag with dynamite on a plane? Unbelievable stuff."
