Flavour, Kcee, Chidinma, Sound Sultan & Professor Feature On Shuga Track!
A sneak preview of "Sweet Like Shuga" - the title track from the upcoming MTV Base/MTV Staying Alive drama Shuga (Series 3) - has gone live on Instagram at http://bit.ly/shugasong.
The full track, featuring Flavour, Kcee, Chidinma, Sound Sultan and Professor and produced by Del’bwill be available on www.mtvbase.com and key radio outlets from Friday 15 November.
The up-beat Afro-Pop track will be available for download free of charge on www.MTVBase.com, www.shuga.tv, Iroking, Spinlet and iTunes from 25 November.
“Sweet Like Shuga” is about the temptations faced by young people and echoes some of the key storylines in the Shuga TV series, which finds its key cast members engaging in a whole range of risky behaviours from multiple séxual partners to unprotected séx, teenage prégnancy, gender based violence and failing to disclose their HIV status.
MTV Base has commissioned celebrated Nigerian music video director Clarence Peters to create the music video for “Sweet Like Shuga”, which will premiere exclusively on Spanking New on MTV Base(DStv Channel 322) in November 2013.
Shuga is an award winning séx and relationships drama and multimedia campaign designed to combat a lack of awareness and misinformation about HIV, sexual responsibility and teen pregnancy among Nigerian youth, the award winning TV series and multimedia campaign is produced by MTV Base and the MTV Staying Alive Foundation in collaboration with NACA, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and UNFPA (United Nations Population Fund). PEPFAR (The US President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief) has also expressed a commitment to join forces with the campaign.
Fusing séxual health messaging with gripping storylines, Shuga aims to raise awareness about HIV prevention and teen pregnancy in Nigeria, as well as other public health issues affecting young people including: living with HIV; disclosing your status; getting tested; condom use; gender based violence; gender equality; women’s empowerment; family planning; transactional sex; multiple concurrent partners; stigma and discrimination of people living with HIV; and parent/child communication.
Shuga stars Maria Okanrende, Tiwa Savage, Okezie Morro, Chris Attoh, Ikubese Emmanuel Ifeanyi, Nick Mutuma, Dorcas Shola Fapson, Leonora Okine, Sharon Ezeamaka, Timini Egbuson, Kachi Nnochiri, Olumide Oworu, Ugbeye Owumi Sani Mu’azu, Bikiya Graham-Douglas, KC Ejelonu, Efa Iwara, Silo Emem Bankole and Charles Ukpong. BET Award winner Ice Prince and “Kukere” star Iyanya are both playing cameo roles in Shuga, as is MTV VJ Ehis Okoeguale.
Shuga will kick off with a double-episode MTV Base (DStv Channel 322) on Sunday 1 December 2013 (World AIDS Day) at 21:00 CAT; double episodes will air every following Sunday. Shuga will subsequently air on MTV (DStv channel 130) and multiple TV and digital platforms around the world.
